Eosinophilic granuloma Complex. Big word that can mean reaction that can be caused usually by allergies but infection and viral infections can have a part in this. This is not to be confused with swollen lips from dental issues, trauma and other types of infection.

Facial Swelling
We normally will not administer Lepto vaccine to puppies. We administer this vaccine after 1 year of age because pets of any age can on occasion have a reaction to it. Puppies can be more sensitive to lepto vaccine. Those reactions may consist of lethargy, swollen face, loss of apetite and fever to name a few. If so contact your vet right away. If needed administer benadryl. Benadryl adult tablets are dosed at 1 tablet per 25 lbs. of body weight.

Ear issues in your dog
Ear infections can take a long time to correct simply because of the hair in their ears. There are some breeds that produce some much hair inside the ear that the normal wax called cerumen which protects the ear can become excessive and lead to a foul odor and infection. On occasion the hair will need to be epilated to allow the ear to heal and normalize.

Ear on the right has a hint of a yeast issue along with mild crusting around the ear flap. There is also a mild odor to accompany the irritation.
Mild otitis or inflammation of the ear is common with humid weather and can be also precipitated by diet and dietary changes.
It’s a good idea to periodically lift the ear flaps and take a look at what is going on there. Not all dogs will shake their head or scratch at the ears when infection and irritation is setting in.

We see and treat a large population of elder or senior pets. Some of our natural protocols have given us the opportunity to address the basic needs and wants of the elder pet and here at our practice they are never forgotten. All too often the issues elder pets face are too often categorized as normal for their age. Well, we work to change those thoughts as we believe that elder pets deserve the same care and merit as young pups and kittens do.

In addition we offer video otic scoping ( ear scoping ) for those pets that have chronic ear issues that never seem to improve.

We believe in a Holistic Vaccine Protocol tailored to your pets needs,habits and health status. If we address and inform on the things you need to know when your pets are young then we believe they will be around for a much longer time. Although we strive to see new clients in a timely manner, we do advise that previous records,results and x-rays be sent to our office prior to your pets’ consult. Complete histories are important in determining if your pets problem is one that can be helped and resolved by our Doctor and staff. So yes, we do the things that regular veterinarians do but in addition we specialize in a few other modalities that when grouped together may help keep your pet remain a family member for a long,long time.
