OG Anunoby is using his championship spotlight to help some local cats get noticed.

Fresh off helping lead the New York Knicks to an NBA title, Anunoby has partnered with Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC), Royal Canin, and VCA Animal Hospitals to spotlight five adoptable shelter cats. The campaign, called "OG's Starting Five," highlights cats currently waiting for homes in New York City's largest shelter system.

To encourage adoptions, the campaign is offering a year of free cat food and veterinary care for adopters. Royal Canin is also donating $300,000 worth of pet food to animal shelters across the U.S. Animal advocates hope the effort will help more shelter cats find loving families.

You can visit Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC) for more adoptable animals here: https://www.nycacc.org/.

Today, VCA turns 40. For four decades, our Associates have shown up with compassion, expertise, curiosity and full hearts. In hospitals, exam rooms, waiting rooms, and in the everyday moments that often go unseen.

Together with Mars Veterinary Health, we are proud of the community we've built and the impact we've made for pets and the people who love them. A community of leaders, learners, innovators, and lovers of pets, united by a shared commitment to advancing
veterinary medicine and raising the standard of care.

Thank you in all forms possible for the forty years that brought us here and the many more still to come.

Crate training can feel like a big step, but done right, it becomes one of the best tools for keeping your pet safe, calm, and out of trouble 🐾

If you’ve been following along with our recent posts, you already know: puppies love to chew (especially your favorite shoes 😅), teething can lead to dangerous “snack choices,” and even small amounts of extra treats or food can sneakily add up. A crate helps manage all of that by giving your pet a safe space when you can’t supervise directly.

Crate training tips for success:
• Make it positive—use meals, treats, and praise inside the crate
• Keep it comfy with soft bedding and safe chew toys
• Start with short periods and gradually build up time
• Never use the crate as punishment (it should feel like their safe zone, not a timeout corner)
• Give appropriate chews to redirect that teething energy in a safe way

Think of it as part of the bigger picture:
✔️ measured meals help prevent weight gain
✔️ safe chew toys prevent emergency “oops, they ate that” situations
✔️ crate training keeps them out of trouble when you can’t supervise

It all works together to keep your puppy or kitten healthy, safe, and just the right amount of mischievous 🐶🐱

Teething puppies and kittens can turn into tiny chaos machines 🐾😅

Not only can they damage the things you love in your home—let’s be real, they always go for your best shoes—but chewing on the wrong item can be dangerous. If they swallow pieces of toys, fabric, or other household items, it can lead to serious intestinal blockages and sometimes emergency surgery. No one wants that for you or your pet.

Help keep them safe (and your shoes intact) by offering appropriate chew toys, rotating textures to keep them interested, and supervising chewing whenever possible.

If you’re ever unsure what’s safe or notice any vomiting, lethargy, or loss of appetite after chewing adventures, give us a call—we’re here to help keep those teething stages safe and (mostly) shoe-free! 🐶🐱

If you’ve never been in to see us before, take advantage of our FREE first exam offer! Get a health exam with one of our amazing doctors and the added peace of mind of a microchip at the same visit 🐶🐱

A few important requirements:

Eyeballing your pet’s food? It might be more generous than you think! 🐾

Using a proper measuring cup helps ensure your pet is getting the right amount at every meal. Even small overestimates can add up over time and lead to unwanted weight gain.

For the best accuracy, use a standard measuring cup (not a random scoop or coffee mug), keep portions consistent, and double-check feeding guidelines based on your pet’s age and lifestyle.

Need a measuring cup? We’ve got you covered! Swing by the hospital and we’ll send you home with a free one. 🐶🐱

Those tiny puppies and kittens don’t stay tiny for long! 🐾

As they grow, their metabolism starts to shift. What worked for them as fast-growing babies can quickly turn into extra weight if portions aren’t adjusted along the way.

If your little one is starting to look a bit less “baby” and a bit more “chunky,” it might be time to reassess their feeding plan. Gradually adjusting portions, monitoring body condition, and choosing the right life-stage diet can help keep them on a healthy track.

Not sure where your pet stands? Schedule an appointment with our team for a doctor exam, weight and body condition check, and a personalized nutrition consult—we’re happy to help set them up for success!

🐾 Fear Free care makes a big difference—for pets and the people who love them 🐾 At our hospital, we’re proud that every member of the VCA Peone Pines team is Fear Free certified. That means we’re trained to recognize fear, anxiety, and stress in pets—and to take extra steps to make each visit as calm and positive as possible.

From gentle handling and tasty distractions, to low-stress exam techniques, pre-visit medications when needed, and tailored visits for nervous pets, everything we do is focused on helping your pet feel safe and supported 🐶🐱

Because better experiences at the vet don’t just make visits easier, they help pets receive better care throughout their lives.

💙 Ready to make your pet’s next visit a low-stress one? Call us at 509-466-7115 to schedule an appointment and ask how we can support a Fear Free experience for your pet.

Here’s a little reminder: giving treats is more than just a snack—it’s love in action. 🐾💛

When you hand your dog or cat a treat, it’s not just about food. It’s a moment of connection, a tiny celebration, a way to say, “I see you, I care about you, and you make my day better.”

Taking a few seconds to reward your furry friend can lift both their spirits and yours. That simple act of kindness strengthens your bond, brings joy, and reminds us that love can be found in the smallest gestures. 🐶🐱✨

So today, give a treat, share a smile, and soak in the happiness that comes with it. 💛🐾
