ing a therapeutic dog and most schools, nursing homes and other locations allow dogs with Good Citizenship Training to be a part of programs at their facilities, and of course a WIN for the new owner who get and absolutely amazing highly trained rescue dog.

“A New Leash on Life” is a program that allows minimum and medium custody state prisons to partner with local animal shelters, animal welfare agencies, and/or private non-profit agencies to train dogs in preparation for their adoption. In turn, the inmates are given a chance to serve the community by training dogs to be well-behaved pets. Selected dogs are placed with inmate trainers in a prison setting for eight to twelve weeks. The inmates teach basic obedience, house training, and socialization through positive reinforcement and repetition. Dogs are taught to walk on and off the leash and to respond to basic commands. Each prison facility partners with a local partner or sponsor, a volunteer animal trainer, and local merchants or civic organizations that can support the program with needed supplies and services. There are currently two apprenticeship programs offered to inmates in the New Leash on Life program. In these programs inmates have the opportunity to receive certified training that will help them obtain a job upon their release from prison. To obtain apprentice certification through the Department of Labor, an inmate must complete 4000 hours on the job training as well as a total of 288 hours related instruction. The related instruction is either provided through the community college or the volunteer trainer. The first apprenticeship is a Dog Trainer Apprenticeship that began in 2007 at Craven CI and has since expanded to include Eastern CI. The second is an Animal Care Provider Apprenticeship and will begin in 2009 at Brown Creek CI and will allow inmates to complete the on the job training at any of the New Leash on Life facilities.

HELP!! Help FurBabies Animal Rescue Provide Urgent Care for Our Furry Friends! Today, we face an urgent situation that requires your compassion and support. We have four special FurBabies in dire need of medical attention: Marshall, Sebastian, Dusty, and Pugsley. Each of them is battling serious health issues, and the costs for their veterinary care are overwhelming.

Marshall, a long term rescue with FurBabies due to other issues, is suffering from a severe bladder infection complicated by stones, making it painful and difficult for him. The medication and vet care he needs are costly, and we are worried about his recovery.

Sebastian and Pugsley are both struggling with painful ear infections and skin issues caused by yeast, leaving them uncomfortable and in need of prompt medical attention.

Dusty is facing the most critical situation. He has an ear infection, skin issues, and a severe eye infection that is causing blindness, alongside severe dry eye and heavy discharge. He needs immediate care to prevent further deterioration of his condition.

Zeus is a 7 year old Chihuahua mix and weighs approximately 9 pounds. He is super shy at first and will take some time for him to fully warm up to you. He has made so much improvement since coming into rescue but is now really wanting his Furever home. He is good with other dogs and just wants someone’s lap to sit on.

Lady Bird is a gentle and affectionate adult dog. She is a snuggle bug who loves to be indoors. She is very friendly and is a great companion. She is the sweetest little 12ish pound, 6 year old shih tzu who came from a breeder who no longer going to breed. Because she spent a lot of time in a kennel she still needs help with potty training but does great on potty pads. She does well on a leash is good with cats and dogs and with a little patience, will be an all around great little gal.
