Hometown Hero Spotlight: Wayne Browning

Join us in honoring Wayne Browning for his 23 years of service with the Sheriff’s Department. Before his career in law enforcement, Wayne spent 15 years as a union ironworker and farmed throughout much of that time.

Born in 1949, Wayne spent his early years on Plum Creek and grew up between East Enterprise and Aberdeen. He proudly graduated from Vevay High School in 1967. Switzerland County was home for much of his life, with a few years in Dearborn County after marrying. He has called Rising Sun home for the past 16 years.

As we celebrate Hometown Hero Days, Petsense is proud to recognize Wayne’s years of hard work and service to his community. Thank you, Wayne!

Honoring Marie Dunning

31 Years of Service, Compassion & Dedication

Marie Dunning is proudly serving her 31st year as a first responder, dedicating her life to helping others and making a difference in her community.

For the first 29 years of her career, Marie served as an Advanced EMT with King’s Daughters Hospital Ambulance Service, where she also dispatched medical calls. The number of people she helped, comforted, and potentially saved throughout those years is truly uncountable.

For the past two years, Marie has continued her mission of service as a dispatcher with Jefferson County 911, helping coordinate emergency responses and ensuring that those in need receive help when every second matters.

Marie is a passionate, kind, intelligent, and compassionate hero. From assisting with the smallest calls to saving lives using the skills she has worked so hard to master, she has shown what it truly means to serve others.

Her dedication doesn’t stop with what she already knows. Marie continues to learn, grow, and improve in every way she can, always striving to be better for the people who depend on her.

Her heart for helping others and her dedication to our community never waver.

Thirty-one years of answering the call. Thirty-one years of caring. Thirty-one years of making a difference.

Marie, thank you for your years of service, your selflessness, and the countless lives you have touched. You are more than a first responder - you are a true hometown hero. ❤️🚑🚨

Celebrating Our Hometown Heros: Alfred Claude and Muriel Jean Adkins

For Hometown Hero Days, we proudly remember Alfred Claude Adkins, who served in the United States Navy during World War II, and his wife, Muriel “Jean” Adkins.

Their commitment to their community continued after the war. Both were longtime members of the American Legion family, supporting veterans and their hometown for many years.

We honor Alfred’s military service and remember them both for their lasting connection to the community

Celebrating Our Hometown Hero: Tom Adkins

Tom Adkins served our nation valiantly in the United States Navy aboard the USS Coral Sea during the Vietnam War. His dedication continued as a proud member of the American Legion and VFW, creating a lasting bond with fellow veterans that linked his noble service to his beloved hometown.

Though he may no longer be with us, I am honored to share his inspiring story and remember his legacy alongside the heroes in our community.

Thank you for your service, Tom. You are cherished, remembered, and your spirit lives on in our hearts.
