This is an interesting and short read for cat lovers and Titanic buffs!
🐾 🚢 According to Violet Jessop—Titanic stewardess and three-time shipwreck survivor—a mysterious white cat showed up on the deck of the Titanic while she was still in Belfast. The ship had been sitting in dry dock for a year, and this streetwise feline wandered aboard all on her own. The crew took to her instantly, built her a cozy nook below decks, and named her Jenny.
From day one, Jenny roamed freely across the decks, prowled the grand staterooms, and explored the hallways—an enthusiastic mouser hired to keep the rats at bay, especially in the first-class areas. Then, in early April, Jenny surprised everyone by giving birth to a litter of kittens. The Irish stoker Joseph Mulholland kindly set up a warm corner for the mother cat and her newborns in the galley, near the cooks’ stove.
But the real twist came at Southampton. One by one, Jenny carried each kitten from the ship’s galley down to the dock, depositing them safely on solid ground—and then she sat on the quay, watching the Titanic as it prepared to sail. Taking her cue, Mulholland left his post aboard too, remaining onshore with Jenny and her brood.
Five days later, word reached Southampton of the Titanic’s tragic sinking. Jenny’s instincts had saved not only her kittens but also Joseph Mulholland’s life. Thus was born the legend of Jenny, the cat who foresaw the Titanic’s fate.
✨ Sometimes, those who can’t speak in words whisper the greatest warnings. Trust your instincts—whether you’re feline or human.
