🐾 Final update for the night. Evie seems to be doing really well. She is eating well, drinking well, trying to play and climbing in Tena’s lap and giving LOTS of kisses. She has a lot more energy than I was expecting. She is still very swollen but it is no longer increasing and seems to be decreasing a bit. She will definitely have some necrotic tissue as she recovers. Next therapy is at 2:45am. Watch for an update tomorrow morning. They are going to get some sleep.
Thank you again for caring. We love our little Evie and wish this hadn't happened but with your help, we are going to get her through this. ❤️

📣c GOAL HAS BEEN MET!
We are so grateful for your support! ❤️

Ok, so now that things have slowed down a bit, we've had a chance to rethink what happened with Evie.
We misunderstood that Evie had been locked in her crate all night and was swollen when it was opened. Meaning she was not exposed to a bite possibility. It turns out, she sleeps in an open crate and the doggie door is locked overnight. THAT was the "door" that was opened. We think she went out quickly, was bitten, didn't come right back in with the others for breakfast and in the time Lynn realized she wasn't waiting for her bowl, she was laying on the porch, starting to swell. No Copperheads have been found on the property in a long time but there have been rattlesnake sightings, just not anywhere near the house (until now).

Evie is resting quite comfortably and the swelling is starting to move down. Our hope is that by the 3rd hyperbaric treatment, she will show considerable improvement.

She is on pain meds, is drinking and even eating a bit. Tail wagging and she's giving kisses. We will followup with her regular vet in the morning.

Meanwhile, we will continue to update on the main Evie post:

THANK YOU to everyone who has donated!! We needed you and you came through for us! We are about $450 from our goal, which include today's ER visit, hyperbaric therapy and a followup vet appt with labs.

💥 CHALLENGE ACCEPTED? BE THE HERO SAWYER IS WAITING FOR!💥

Dalmatian Rescue of Colorado needs a special foster home for Sawyer—a stunning 2-year-old, 73 lb neutered male Dalmatian with a massive heart and a lot of untapped potential.

🐾Sawyer spent his early life running loose. Because of that "benign neglect," he became a total "wild man" who relies on himself instead of looking to humans for guidance. He loves people, but building a balanced relationship takes time.

The awesome news? He’s already putting in the work!

Sawyer has spent 3 weeks at The Canine Center in SW Austin mastering:
🧠 Impulse control around distractions
🐕 Polite leash walking skills🤝 Neutral greetings

He has 2+ weeks left of school, and DRC covers 100% of the cost for his foster to attend classes or tutor days with Jane and her staff. This is an incredible, free perk to learn from elite trainers!

What Sawyer Needs to Succeed:
🚫 No Other Pets: He isn't aggressive, but he is controlling. An only-pet home is a must.
💪 Physical Strength: He’s a big, powerful boy who is a lot of dog to handle out in public.
🗓️ Structure & Routine: He needs a savvy, consistent handler to keep his momentum going.

If you love the reward of transforming a diamond in the rough, Sawyer is your guy.

Let’s get this boy into the right home!

🐾 12:30pm update:
Evie is resting, uncomfortable but resting. Her face is continuing to swell but her airway is fine. The vet feels this was a Copperhead bite. She has 2 punctures on her right jaw are and three scrapes on her ear flap but the flap is not swollen. Her labs show some elevations but her platelets are normal. Since Evie was swollen when she came out of her crate this morning, we think she was bitten last night right before everyone came in for the night.
The plan is one vial of antivenom, watch her closely for 4 hours and then she will be released to me. From there, we will drive to All Creatures Hyperbaric Care for 3 treatments over 11 hours to help resolve the swelling and treat any resulting necrosis.
I have to go back to Waco for supplies and backup oxygen, so may be unavailable to answer questions for awhile.

🐾Total
Sun morning:
Evie is on her way to the ER vet. Her mom came in from ranch chores and she was laying on the porch with a badly swollen face. We don't know what bit her yet. She is breathing ok.

I'm on my way down to Roundrock to be with her. I'll keep you updated as we learn more.

🐾 Update, definitely snakebite, waiting on labs.

This is the reward...the updates we live for. ❤️
We love you, Sammie!
From Sammie's family:
"Many days are demo days at our house since Sammie arrived. She’s a chewer but hasn’t destroyed anything but toys. She’s also got a smile whenever we return home, which we love. She likes to zoom around the backyard even in the heat. That’s hard to video, but I’m thinking she could win a barrel racing competition if there’s one for dogs. She loves to walk the neighborhood and lets Michael and me know when it’s time for her morning and evening stroll. She’s shy with new people but will approach them after a bit. She is a great dog as promised, and we’re enjoying every minute with her."
