Cats are weird (but that’s why we love them)!
One of the main reasons we see cats here at Pet Dental Clinic is due to Resorptive Lesions or, as we like to call them, F.O.R.L. (Feline Odontoclastic Resorption Lesions).
What is it? Tooth resorption is a process where the tissue beneath the tooth’s enamel erodes and destroys the tooth. These lesions can involve both the crown and roots. Lesions that affect the tooth crown are very painful and require extraction.
Cats with tooth resorption may show signs of increased salivation, increased rubbing at face, and sensitivity when eating. However, since cats are such stoic creatures and may not let you take a good look in their mouths, lesions often go unnoticed. Annual dentals with full mouth radiographs are highly recommended to maintain oral health and to help with early detection of disease!
Please see the photos below from a couple of our very loved patients for examples of resorptive lesions! If you believe your cat may have a resorptive lesion or is overdue for their annual cleaning, feel free to give us a call or book through our website!
