End of camp awards and then after the derby style competition, ribbons and first place trophies. Many thank to counselors, parents and indispensable volunteers for help putting on this incredible week of activities. And thanks to Jina for her heavenly hamburgers and Italian sodas on Saturday
Sometimes at camp it's takes teamwork so that beginning riders can have a great experience!
In this hot weather we have lots of fun things for the kids to do at camp other than on horseback. So the horses really aren't worked very hard. Kids can cool off in a variety of ways and have a ton of fun and laughter. They also do crafts and projects that help them to learn about horses.
Here's another thing to do in the shade in the big arena that's super fun and horses don't break a sweat. Bob for Apple race. Lots of chance for kids to get wet!
Here's another thing we do to beat the heat. Lots of cold water wash.
Mention was made wondering how we could conduct a camp in this hot weather. The way we do it is in the shade! Our 85x210 Arena has a pleasant Breeze and horses and kiddos are out of the Sun.

Sometimes we forget that riding horses is considered a high risk sport... How are you coaching your riders so that they have more tools to control their horse when the unexpected happens?
"Parents, let your daughters grow up to be horse girls, because they will learn quickly and repeatedly that life isn’t fair, that hard work is often trumped by Lady Luck, and that every defeat, no matter how terrible, is temporary. Let them dream big and kick on. Let them learn confidence, grace and grit. Let them build big muscles and strong backs, and learn that a little blood and a little sweat are good things, because they show you that you're living. Let them grow up with horses and with good horse people, because it will teach them to be humble, and to be resilient, and to be brave." (Lauren Sprieser)

This is interesting information on testing how brave your horse is.
Here is this week's Friday Freebie!
🐴 The Bravery Test
A good Event horse must be brave. To be really safe in this sport, the horse has to really WANT to go tackle the unknown wherever we may be pointing them. Many hearts have been broken over beautiful, athletic, and talented horses that just didn't have this quality. While bravery can be developed to some degree through training, most horses have an innate limit. And it is a shame to waste time, money, and effort... not to mention mental anguish, and sometimes even injury... to try to take a horse past that limit.
So how can you tell if the horse you are working with is innately brave or not? I have a quick easy little test that I have found to quite accurately predict how brave and willing a horse will be. And no, it is not jumping through a ring of fire!
Click on the link below to find out about this little test that can be done with a horse of any age or level of experience 👇

Upward canter transitions: they’re easy in theory since it’s all about timing, but as an inexperienced amateur rider or someone who is just getting started it’s actually kind of tricky to get that timing right.
