Happy National Yorkie Day! 🐾🎉

Every dog has its day, and today it's the Yorkie's turn to shine! These pint-sized pups have a bigger history than you might think — they got their start in 19th-century Yorkshire, England, where Scottish weavers brought small terriers with them in search of work. Crossed with breeds like the Skye Terrier, these dogs became expert ratters in textile mills and coal mines. By the Victorian era, their silky coats and spunky charm won over high society, and the scrappy working dog transformed into a fashionable lapdog almost overnight. Today, Yorkies are one of the most popular toy breeds around, known for packing huge personalities into tiny bodies.

🩺 Vet tips for our Yorkie families:
✔️ Dental care matters more than people think — their small mouths crowd teeth together, making them extra prone to dental disease. Daily brushing and regular cleanings go a long way.
✔️ Keep an eye out for skipping or hopping on a back leg — luxating patella is common in toy breeds.
✔️ Their gorgeous coat needs regular brushing to prevent mats — a shorter "puppy cut" can make upkeep easier.
✔️ Because they're so small, always double-check that toys, stairs, and playtime with bigger dogs or excited kids are Yorkie-safe.

🐾 Happy International Friendship Day from all of us at A Pet's Place! 🐾

"Dear Hooman, did you know friends have had their own holiday for almost 100 years? A guy named Joyce Hall (yep, the Hallmark founder) proposed it back in 1930 — though I'd argue I deserve more credit for keeping the tradition alive.
The official worldwide version came later: in 1958, a group of friends in Paraguay had dinner and decided the world needed more days like this one, and by 2011 the United Nations made it official — July 30th, International Day of Friendship, celebrated with the goal of using friendship to help bridge peace between cultures and nations. Fun fact: Winnie the Pooh was even named the UN's official "Ambassador of Friendship" in 1998. A bear who loves honey and naps? A pet after my own heart.
But between us — I don't need a UN resolution to know a good friend when I see one. You feed me, you scratch behind my ears, you let me hog the bed. That's basically a peace treaty in my book."
