This family of raccoon had been living in the homeowner’s crawl space/attic for months. They were entering into the crawl space via some open boards on their deck. They traveled up onto the wall which was at walking height on their second level. It was extremely unnerving as their nightly baby screams were disruptive. The homeowners were beyond frustrated. They reached out to a big box company who wanted thousands of dollars to trap them.

The problem with this is that if you trap mom, the babies may not be old enough to trap but the bigger problem is, even if you obtain the entire family, relocating an entire family of raccoons is not kind or humane. Mama panics and abandons her kids because she has no clue where she is or where her food sources are or where she will sleep!

And what ends up happening, is that the babies are discovered without mom and now become the responsibility and expense of a wildlife rehabber taking time and money away from an animal who really needs help not a created problem!

This eviction was fairly straightforward. It may have taken a little more diligence with sights and smells, but mama eventually took her kids and left after about 5 days. The best case scenario for all involved!

The other day, Robyn reached out to us after speaking to a local wildlife rescue about a raccoon in her attic. She had a mama raccoon living in her attic for a while. A big box company did an inspection the previous day and quoted her a very large sum to eliminate the raccoon and clean up the area.

We came out to inspect - mama raccoon was on her roost (sitting in the nest made by years of birds). We knew the nest needed to be dismantled although the big box company told the homeowner, there were several dead carcasses which there were not, only one.

Moreover, the big box company convinced the homeowner that all her insulation needed to be removed and replaced. This also was not the case. The area needed to be cleaned, the nest needed to be dismantled and the gable needed to be repaired - that’s it!

We set up a camera and started our eviction protocol. Mama left within the hour! She did not like me in her space! The next day, we returned to make sure mama was gone and indeed she was, we removed the one dead squirrel carcass, removed the bird nest and repaired the gable.

Buyer beware! The estimate was absolutely ridiculous for a fairly straightforward situation. This big box company made this homeowner fearful so they she would open her checkbook! Deceit is never ok. There is a better way - a humane, cost effective, much simpler way!!

This is the time of year squirrels will make their way into your home. 🐿️🏡

These squirrels chewed their way into this attic through wet and rotting wood. If the squirrels had not been present, the homeowner would be unaware that the entire wood section needed to replaced.
Further water damage and rot and mold would have ensued!

It is the season 🥶 that critters will start finding their way into your home. 🏠

Red squirrels 🐿️ in particular can get into the smallest of holes! While they are cute, they are relentless little fellas.

We do things differently!
We would never use a one way door during baby season!! Babies have no way of getting out! It is a slow and painful death! He didn’t deserve that!

This mama was in this attic for 3 weeks. We set up and as soon as it got dark, she made tracks to leave.
Scrap the trap!
Eviction for the win!!!

Unfortunately this small family found their way in through an open chimney. Mama also found her way into the home owner’s basement since there was a hole in the clean out which led to the basement.

An eviction was not an option so removing the babies and reuniting with mama was the best option.

When done correctly, this is easy to do!

This homeowner was hearing some scratching in her attic. Thankfully, we found entry points through the gable screening which was original to the home (50 years old) and was now brittle with several holes allowing easy access for animals!

Providing a screen that is rodent proof is an easy fix that we can help with. It is an inexpensive solution to a potentially big problem! Mice, squirrels, birds and raccoons often enter through compromised gables.
