🚨 EHM: What Every Horse Owner Should Know 🚨
Equine Herpesvirus Myeloencephalopathy (EHM) is a highly contagious, life-threatening neurologic disease caused by EHV-1. Early detection and strong biosecurity matter more than ever.

👀 Watch for warning signs:
• Fever
• Nasal discharge
• Tail weakness
• Hind limb incoordination
• Difficulty standing

💉 About vaccination:
While there is no vaccine that fully prevents the neurologic form (EHM), keeping horses current on their “rhino” (EHV) vaccines can:
✔️ Reduce severity of clinical signs
✔️ Decrease viral shedding
✔️ Help limit spread within your barn
✔️ Protect the herd as part of a full biosecurity plan

🔁 Immunity is short-lived, so boosters every 3–6 months are often recommended for higher-risk horses.

🐴 Vaccine example:
Products like Prestige® 5 contain antigens for both Equine Influenza (Flu) and Equine Herpesvirus (Rhino/EHV) as part of a comprehensive respiratory protection program. Always follow your veterinarian’s guidance for product selection and timing.

🧼 Vaccination works best alongside:
• Quarantining new or returning horses
• Good hygiene and traffic control
• Close monitoring during outbreaks

🐎 Always consult your veterinarian to determine the best vaccination and biosecurity plan based on your horse’s age, use, and exposure risk.
