Akkps 62982 Ohaska Acres TaruTaru “Juel”

Juel is a retained gilt out of Jay Gatsby & Petunia. This girl is growing nicely! I am loving her wide head, ear set, confirmation, bone, and muscling.

We are planning a progress weigh in and measurement on her this weekend. During the summer we missed her 6mo check in, now she is just shy of 8months - so better late than never!

Great article outlining wattle genes.

Have you ever wondered how to predict the potential for wattles in your Kunekune litters? Its not as mysterious as you think. Wattles are a simple dominant trait. Which means that if your Kunekune has wattles, then they are either homozygous dominant (two copies of the wattle gene- one from mom a

🎃 DON’T THROW AWAY THOSE PUMPKINS! 🐷

As the fall season comes to an end, Ohaska Acres is asking our local community to please consider donating your leftover pumpkins to our pig herds instead of throwing them away!

Any pumpkins that are free of mold and paint are welcome! We’re happy to give them a second life as a tasty treat for our pigs. 🐖

Whether you have one pumpkin from your front porch or several from a fall display, we’d love to take them off your hands!

Let’s reduce waste, support our animals, and keep those pumpkins out of the landfill. 🌱

Thank you for supporting Ohaska Acres and our commitment to sustainable, regenerative farming!

Please reach out to arrange a drop-off/pick-up.

Rotational grazing management with hog herds show beneficial regenerative growth. You can improve your soil with an array of grazing animals, just have to know how to manage the pressure of each on the land.

We officially have our Spring 2027 breeding pairs together and everyone seems to be enjoying their new pasture mates.

Akkps 36197 BWF Jenny “Princess Fiona”

This is a repeat breeding. These two produce a marvelous litter this spring of proportionate muscling, outstanding length, teat counts of 6/6 or 7/7’s, great confirmation, notable growth rates, and laid back personalities.

With her heat cycle, we are shooting for early March babies to hit the ground.

Our other herd boar Jay is a BIG, handsome, brute of a teddy bear. ♥️

Akkps 34074 SDF Mahia Love “Jay Gatsby”
Aka Jay Z, Jayson, Jay dawg, JJ..

Weighing in at 420+ lbs and averaging 2 inches of height & length on our second largest pig, he is by far our largest boar on property. He brings outstanding bone and length to our herd, along with his beautiful derpy personality. When I think about his inner monologue, I think the best voice choice would be Patrick from Sponge Bob. He is an easy going, goofy gentle giant that will automatically tip right over for belly rubs if you look at him a certain way.

He produced some stellar litters this year, and we have two planned for him next spring. 1 repeat with our Jenny sow Fiona, and one with our TaruTaru gilt Daisy.

We are excited to see his next round of progeny!

Do you have a farm animal that just outshines everyone else? The one you can rely on to do exactly what you need, when you need it?

Rough is that for us. He is my steady eddy, calm cool collected in any scenario pig. He gives me zero issues. He is the same everyday, in every situation - unbothered, respectful, and easy going. He treats his ladies like gems, even giving up his meal for them without a fight.

🐽Time to worm?
Stands like a statue for his shot

🐽Need a hoof trim?
Lays down/rolls over without a fight

🐽Feed time chaos?
Waits by his bowl patiently while everyone else loses their ever lovin’ minds.

How did I get so lucky! Rough gets all the best treats first ♥️

Look for two litters by him spring 2027!

Good grief he is handsome and just keeps getting better with age 🤌 We are looking forward to having litters by him again next spring after a year off from the breeding pen.

We exclusively used our Mahia Love boar “Jay Gatsby” last year to test the waters on which crosses we liked with him. Now that we have a good idea of who crosses well with whom - we have a solid plan next year and pairing select girls with each.

2027 comes with a lot of excited for improvements we want to see in our herd moving forward.

Our barrow Mickey received the prestigious title of Rough’s lifetime companion. He will get to live out his days here soaking up the sun, enjoying all the treats, all while fulfilling his duties of keeping his dad company.
