Today is Give to the Max day - the single largest day of giving in the state of Minnesota.
Today, we encourage you to do your research as you donate:
1. Take a look at Guidestar - you can see the historical tax return filings of the organization and see the asset balances that they maintain over time as well as the types and levels of salaries that the organization pays out to their leadership team. You can get a sense for where your hard earned dollars are going.
2. Consider a different donation platform than GiveMN. This site is for profit and has a donation processing fee that is over triple the fee of some of the other platforms, and makes millions on this day of giving.
Finally, we ask you to consider all of the small organizations in your giving this season. There are large groups that may raise over $200-$500k today alone, with donations blending together and other groups that would be blessed and happy to walk away with $1,000, where your contribution stands out as a key part of helping a group sustain their mission.
