Mother Goodie. 🖤

Meet Mother Goodie, a 1-year-old female who's what we lovingly refer to as... an unstable void.

This sweet girl has Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH), which means balance and coordination just aren't in her skill set. Walking in a straight line? Overrated. Grace? Never met her. Looking absolutely adorable while tipping over for no apparent reason? She's got that part mastered.

We've added videos because Mother Goodie is something you really have to see to appreciate. What might seem heartbreaking at first quickly turns into, "Okay... she's ridiculously cute."

Now for the important part: CH cats require commitment.

Mother Goodie isn't in pain, and she can absolutely live a long, happy, spoiled life. But she does need a family that's ready to meet her where she is.

She'll need:

❤️ Soft landings when gravity inevitably wins.
🏡 Easy access to her favorite spots with ramps, steps, or low furniture.
🍽️ Someone who's willing to laugh, grab a towel, and clean up after she accidentally turns mealtime into an art project.
🧻 A family that understands she'll sometimes need a quick wipe-down after using the litter box because she's just as uncoordinated there as she is everywhere else.

It's not glamorous, and we won't pretend it is. Caring for Mother Goodie takes a little more effort than caring for the average cat.

But ask anyone who's loved a CH cat, and they'll tell you the same thing: they're absolutely worth it.

Mother Goodie doesn't know she's different. She still wants cuddles, treats, cozy naps, and to be wherever her people are. She approaches every day with complete confidence, even if her legs occasionally have a different game plan.

Special-needs pets are often overlooked because they're not the "easy" choice. We're hoping someone out there isn't looking for easy—they're looking for her.

If you've got a soft heart, a few extra paper towels, and room for one wonderfully wobbly void, come meet Mother Goodie. We think you'll find she's worth every tumble, every mess, and every extra bit of care.

After all, the best things in life aren't always the most coordinated. 🖤

Some updates are worth happy tears.

WHIMSY HAS BEEN ADOPTED!! ❤️🥹

But that's not even the best part...

She's going home to be reunited with her sister, Snowflake.

We have joked that these girls were part mountain goat, part escape artist, and completely convinced that fences were just expensive jungle gyms. They made us laugh, kept us on our toes, and stole a little piece of all our hearts.

Now they're together again.

There are moments in animal sheltering that remind us why we keep showing up. This is one of them.

Two sisters who found themselves separated. Two dogs who waited for their chance. Two dogs who now get to curl up on the same couch, explore the same yard (please... don't test the fence), and spend the rest of their lives exactly where they belong—with each other and with a family who chose them.

It doesn't get much better than that.

To everyone who shared their stories, rooted for them, and believed these girls deserved this ending—thank you. Every share, every comment, and every kind word helped them find their way home.

Now, Whimsy... we know Snowflake has probably already shown you the property lines and pointed out the fence. Do us one favor and pretend you've both retired from your mountain goat careers. Redirect all that energy into naps, snacks, and convincing your new family that you absolutely haven't been fed in at least three business days.

We'll miss you, sweet girl. But if there was ever a goodbye that was easy to celebrate, it's this one.

Go enjoy your sister, your family, and the life you've both been waiting for. ❤️🐾

🎉 Rescue update for Tamagotchi! 🎉

Tamagotchi has officially been rescued! ❤️

A huge thank you to CARA (Carolina Animal Adoption and Rescue) for stepping up to give this sweet girl the fresh start she deserved.

Shelter life was simply too overwhelming for Tamagotchi. Sometimes the kennel environment hides who a dog really is, and we know she has so much more to offer than what she was able to show with us.

Now she's headed somewhere a little quieter, a little calmer, and hopefully a place where she can finally relax, let her personality shine, and prove to everyone what we've believed all along—that she's the best girl.

Thank you again, CARA, for giving Tamagotchi the chance she needed. We can't wait to see what her future holds. ❤️🐾

Mr. Charles Lee Ray. 🔪🐶

Meet Charles. He's 2 years old, weighs a mighty 11 pounds, and is 100% convinced he could bench press a German Shepherd.

Yes, he's neutered.

No, we don't think he got the memo.

Charles isn't aggressive. He's just the kind of guy who believes friendship is a privilege, not a right. His people? Fantastic. His dog buddies? They're cool. You, a complete stranger? That's a bold assumption.

Now don't worry—you can absolutely pick him up, put a leash on him, carry him around...

But let's not get carried away and call ourselves friends.

Charles sees that as a professional interaction.

He has also selected his favorite staff member. The rest of us have worked here long enough to know where we stand. We feed him, clean up after him, tell him how handsome he is, and in return he looks at us like we interrupted an important meeting.

He's basically a tiny CEO with an HR department of one.

The funny thing is, once Charles decides you're his person, he'll happily cuddle up, follow you around, and defend your honor like his life depends on it. You just have to survive the interview process first.

So if you're looking for a dog that immediately loves everyone...

Charles would like to refer you to literally any Golden Retriever.

If, however, you'd like a tiny gremlin with mob boss confidence, questionable management skills, and enough personality to fill an entire house, Mr. Charles Lee Ray is waiting.

Applications are open.

Approval is not guaranteed.

Charles has the final say.

BeanBag 🥊
3 years old. Neutered. Cane Corso. Approximately 109 pounds of "I said what I said."

Before anyone starts planning matching pajamas, let's have a quick chat.

BeanBag is looking for someone with experience owning Cane Corsos or similar guardian breeds. Why? Because this handsome fella comes with factory-installed security software. Like many Corsos, he believes strangers should submit an application before introductions and that fences are excellent places to loudly announce his opinions.

If you don't know the breed, you might think he's trying to eat the UPS driver. In reality, he's just being a Cane Corso.

Now let's discuss the elephant... we mean BeanBag... in the room. He's 109 pounds. That's not a dog you casually tuck under your arm when he has other ideas. Responsible ownership, consistent training, and confidence aren't optional—they're part of the package.

This isn't us trying to talk people out of adopting him. Quite the opposite. We're trying to find the person who will look at BeanBag and say, "Yep, that's exactly the kind of dog I've been looking for."

Guardian breeds aren't everyone's cup of tea, and that's okay. They were never meant to be. But for the right family, they're fiercely loyal, incredibly devoted, and worth every bit of the effort.

BeanBag doesn't need someone to "fix" him. He needs someone who understands him.

If that sounds like you, come meet our oversized, opinionated gentleman. Just don't expect him to be impressed immediately.

He likes to keep people humble.

🎉 Happy Gotcha Day! 🎉

Someone has been busy filling out adoption paperwork... and we are not complaining.

A huge congratulations to Bia, Berry Bliss, Carlie C's, Pebbles, Donatello, Rambo, and Claw Machine on finding their forever families! ❤️🐾

Your shelter careers have officially ended. You're all now full-time couch inspectors, professional snack beggars, bed hogs, and neighborhood supervisors. Please take your new jobs very seriously.

We hope your treat jars are never empty, your beds are ridiculously fluffy, your water bowls are always fresh, and your families fall for the "I've literally never eaten before" routine at least once a day. (Let's be honest... they will.)

To your new families: thank you for giving these goofy faces a place to call home. We hope you're ready for muddy paw prints, cat hair on every black shirt you own, zoomies at the least convenient times, and more unconditional love than you know what to do with.

Now go forth and absolutely take over your new homes. We wouldn't have it any other way. 🐶🐱❤️

📚🎓 Off to college they go!

Sassy and Sprinkles have officially headed off to CCCC – Central Carolina Community College to help veterinary students learn the ins and outs of animal care. That's right... these two are now college professors. Well... teaching assistants might be more accurate, but don't tell them that. Their egos are already growing.

They're going to help future veterinary professionals gain hands-on experience caring for animals, and we couldn't be prouder of these girls. The work they're doing will help students build the skills they'll use to care for countless animals in the future.

The best part? Once they've finished their important educational duties, they'll be looking for families of their own. So while they're busy earning their honorary degrees in "Professional Good Girl," their forever homes are still waiting.

Thank you to the staff and students at CCCC for helping these wonderful girls—and to Sassy and Sprinkles, thank you for being such excellent ambassadors. ❤️🐾

Whimsy's Day Out ❤️

Well... Whimsy has once again confirmed that she is, in fact, the perfect dog.

We know, we know. We make a lot of mountain goat jokes. It's deserved. This girl has looked at a chain-link fence and thought, "Cute suggestion." Her escape plans are currently under strict surveillance, and we're fairly certain she's drafting new ones as we speak.

But here's the thing...

Whimsy doesn't try to leave because she's bad.

She tries to leave because she wants a home.

When she gets to spend the day away from the shelter, you see the dog she's supposed to be. She strolls down the sidewalk like she's been doing it her whole life. She rides in the car as the world's greatest passenger princess. She visits stores, politely greets everyone she meets, and somehow convinces complete strangers to fall in love with her before they've even finished saying hello. Dogs? Friends. People? Friends. Couches? Her life's greatest ambition.

Then the day ends.

She hops back into the car, probably thinking she's finally going home... only to pull back into the shelter parking lot.

That part hurts.

You can see the excitement fade as she realizes this wasn't forever. Just another borrowed day. Another reminder of the life she's waiting for.

We joke that she's plotting her next escape, but truthfully... she's just trying to find the place she's been looking for all along.

A family.

Someone who won't bring her back at the end of the day.

Someone whose couch she can claim forever.

Someone who'll never have to wonder where Whimsy is... because she'll already be home, snoring beside them.

(We'll still recommend a secure fence, though. Old habits die hard.)

Petco Event Update!

QUARTER POUNDER’S mom was waiting for him, and it was love at first sight! Only one dog went home Saturday, but he was our biggest guy, so honestly, we are not complaining. Quality over quantity, folks.

While everyone else socialized, made new friends, and judged the general public, we learned a few things:

BERRY BLISS thinks she is the boss, but she is actually nervous and shy when meeting new dogs. Kids, however? She loves them.

RUNE is a rock-solid friend who is ready to meet and play with everyone. He is also willing to work for food and picks up commands very quickly. Smart, social, and snack-motivated—the full package.

SPRINKLES will sing the song of her people when left alone, but she settles down nicely when she is hanging out with you. She wants to play with other dogs, but right now she is still figuring out how. Awkward girl representation matters.

NEMO is, in our professional opinion, fully prepared to survive a brain-eating amoeba. He desperately wants to play, but currently believes slap boxing, nipping, and full-body slams are the proper way to make friends. Is this the shepherd coming out? Who knows. Somebody please teach this child some manners.

WHIMSY decided the chair was her assigned seat and napped through nearly the entire event, only getting up for the occasional butt sniff. Part mountain goat, part couch potato. An amazing combination. Ten out of ten, highly recommend.

MR. MIYAGI sat back and judged the chaos in perfect old-man fashion. He appeared to wonder what exactly we had dragged him into and even fell asleep sitting up like the proper grandpa he is.

TAZ loved meeting the ladies and all the new people, but the event eventually became stressful for him. That is not a bad mark against Taz—it simply means the noise, dogs, people, and activity were too much. He would rather meet everyone at a slower, calmer pace, and we completely respect that.

Even though Quarter Pounder was the only adoption of the day, every event gives us valuable information that helps us find the right homes for these animals. They all did their best, learned a little, and probably slept very well afterward.

🎉 It's National Clear the Shelters Month... and of course we're joining in! 🎉

We have one goal this August: to send as many animals home as possible. (Our staff won't admit it, but we actually love seeing empty kennels.)

For the entire month of August:

🐾 Dogs and cats that are already spayed or neutered will have their adoption fees WAIVED!

🐾 Our Foster-to-Adopt program isn't going anywhere! If an animal isn't altered yet, they can still go home with you through the program for a small fee:
🐶 Dogs – $50
🐱 Cats – $40

Once they're old enough or medically ready, they'll come back for their spay or neuter surgery, and then the adoption is finalized.

Every animal here has the same wish: to trade a kennel for a couch, shelter meals for treats, and our staff for a family of their own. (No offense taken... we'd rather visit them than clean up after them anyway.)

Whether you're looking for a hiking buddy, a professional couch potato, a biscuit enthusiast, or a cat who will judge your life choices from across the room, we've probably got someone waiting to meet you.
