Why has this boy not had any applications yet??? Hercules is a 10-month-old pit bull mix with a giant heart and a goofy personality to match. He’s fully vaccinated, neutered, weighs 53 pounds, and is ready to charm the socks off whoever is lucky enough to take him home.

This boy loves people. If he could ride around in your pocket all day, he would. Snuggling is absolutely his love language, and he firmly believes that sharing a bed means he gets most of it. He also expects nightly belly rubs, because self-care matters. He occasionally gets to go to work with his foster mom and absolutely loves it because it means even more attention.

Hercules gets along great with other dogs and would be thrilled to have a buddy to play with. Cats are still a mystery. Are they tiny bosses? Furry goblins? He isn’t sure, so a slow intro is best. He’s not bothered by loud noises, and he isn’t a big barker. He was recently surprised by a runner and a bicyclist sneaking up behind him, which sent him into protector mode for a moment. Still, it was nothing more than his enthusiastic alert system kicking in.

Potty training is going well with only a few oops moments. He uses a dog door like a pro, which helps a lot. Kennels are still a work in progress. He’ll go in when asked, but if he had a vote, he’d much rather be snuggled up in your bed pretending he’s a tiny lap dog. The fact that he is not tiny does not concern him in the slightest.

Leash training has come a long way. He now sees the leash as a ticket to adventure. His recall is impressive, too. If he slips away, he may take a quick freedom lap, but he always comes back when you call. He’s working on sit and stay, although his attention span sometimes takes quick snack breaks.

Playtime is where his silliness shines. He loves chew toys and hooves, enjoys the occasional pup cup, and he has a habit of stealing blankets so he can strut around like he just won the Olympics. He can also jump baby gates like a tiny athlete, which makes us think he could be an agility star if his future family is up for it.

Hercules is affectionate, fun, a little mischievous, and a whole lot of wonderful. With love, patience, and maybe some baby gate reinforcements, he will grow into the most loyal adventure buddy you could ever ask for.

If you think Hercules might be your kind of chaos and cuddles, send us a message. He’s ready to make you laugh every single day.

Peanut update: Peanut got a cozy bath and snuggled up with his heating pad and blankie yesterday. His glucose readings have been great and spirits have been high! He is wanting to be very active and has had to be reminded he is on bed rest. Although Parvo is such a roller coaster, he has been giving us hope! He’s feeling spunky but also not complaining about his cozy naps🩷

Alright, we have a mission for you. Our friends at Helping Hands Rescue are kicking off their very first adoption event tomorrow (Saturday 10a-2p) at their new location on Thain, right next to the liquor store. The Carltons generously donated this space so they can host adoption events every Saturday, which is an incredible gift to our community.

Once you’ve soaked up your fill of puppy and kitten snuggles, grab some rum from the liquor store for some homemade hot buttered rum, then head straight across the street to the new Ritz Eatz Lewiston food truck park.

You’ll find Missy Moo’s Bar-B-Que (and Buns On The Run) over there. They’re one of my absolute favorites. Tonight we finally tried their smoked baked potatoes and some of the best BBQ you’ll find around here.

Don’t let the photos fool you. I have to customize my baked potato a bit, but they offer an amazing lineup of sauces, meats, and toppings so you can build your perfect tater.

🚓 Missy Moo’s is law enforcement owned and they give first responders a discount, which is pretty awesome.

Support your locally owned small businesses and make sure to tell the Carltons thanks for everything they do for our rescues and small businesses in the Valley.

As many of you know, we have been working on a case behind the scenes and now need to line up rescue or shelter placements for approximately 6 to 10 heelers and heeler mixes. They are all friendly and estimated to be between 1 and 4 years old.

If you have contacts at rescues or shelters that may be able to help, please reach out to them and tag them in the comments. We are based in Lewiston, ID and can assist with transport and coordination.

Our little Peanut continues to make slow and steady progress. He’s perkier, eating on his own, and definitely getting some sass back. He also officially hit the 6-week-old milestone.

We have received numerous adoption inquiries for Peanut. Right now, our only priority is getting him healthy and through this parvo battle. He is not available for adoption or foster at this time. He is in a wonderful foster home with a vet tech and is safe with his momma, Mollie. We truly appreciate every single offer to foster him.

This has been one of the most expensive weeks in our history when it comes to veterinary care. Between Peanut and Butter’s emergency care and hospitalization, plus additional surgeries, biopsies, and spay or neuter procedures for the other dachshunds from the same case, the bills added up quickly.

Once things settle, everyone heals, we get some of these dogs adopted, and we knock down a few more bills, we will reopen intakes. For now, we remain closed for new intakes, and we are unable to assist with veterinary bills for community pets at this time. We can, however, still offer pet food from our Pet Pantry to those in need.

We are incredibly grateful for the donations we have received so far. They have helped us make significant progress on these bills, but we still have some work to do. We also have a couple of emergency grant applications pending.

If you are in a position to donate, we would be so grateful for your support. And if donating is not possible, sharing our posts is just as meaningful and helps us more than you know.

Thank you all for your patience this week. I have a stack of applications for pups to get through and I’m hoping to have decisions made this weekend.

Along with our parvo puppies, we’ve had several other situations happening behind the scenes, including another hoarding case that of course snowballed into more than we expected. We can’t share much since it is an open investigation, but I want to take a moment to acknowledge our incredible team of volunteers. They have been boots on the ground, knee deep in f***s and mud, doing the kind of dirty work most people never see. Without them, none of this would be possible. They are the reason these animals get a fighting chance.

And now for a Peanut update. We will let these photos tell you exactly how he’s feeling this evening…

The “parvo dance” is something I will never get used to. It brings the highest highs and the lowest moments. We have walked this road many times and it never gets easier.

Peanut went from loudly voicing his opinions about being poked too often and complaining about the unacceptable lack of cuddle time to suddenly taking a hard turn when his glucose dropped and he had some seizure activity. The good news is that he is stabilized again and the team has a plan in place for free feeding and frequent meals until he can keep those levels steady.

For now, he is living his best fine-dining life with Ge**er baby food and puppy formula, and he is not mad about it. He may be tiny, but he has more fight in him than most grown men do. Keep those good thoughts coming for our little warrior. 🤞🏼

Please, help us spread the word about Maddy. She is one of the most perfect dogs, especially if you have other dogs for her to play with. She's being overlooked and is more than ready for her furever home.
___

Meet Maddie. She is just over a year old and weighs about 53 pounds. Maddie has had a difficult start in life and is looking for someone who will give her the time, patience, and gentle reassurance she deserves. Once she feels safe, you will see her sweet personality come out.

Maddie is timid in some situations and tends to be nervous around new things and around men. She has never once shown aggression, even in her most stressful moments. Truly, she does not have an aggressive bone in her body. She bonded quickly with her foster mom but is still learning to be comfortable with her foster dad, even after several weeks (he even shaved his beard for her!!). This just tells us that her new home will need to understand slow introductions and quiet support.

Maddie loves being outdoors. A fully fenced yard is important so she can relax and enjoy her space. She really opens up when she is outside. She gets the zoomies, has a goofy playfulness, and loves to play chase. Fetch is still a mystery to her, but she may enjoy it once she learns the game.

She would do best in a home with another dog who is confident and kind. Maddie truly misses having a dog companion and looks to other dogs for guidance and comfort. She is also wonderful with cats. The cats in her foster home typically avoid dogs, but they were comfortable with Maddie within days because she is so gentle. She has even met horses and was simply curious.

Maddie’s leash manners are as close to perfect as it gets. She walks right beside you and never pulls. She ignores other dogs and distractions while on leash. She would be easy for someone with mobility challenges or even a child to walk.

Maddie is crate-trained and sleeps quietly through the night. She is spayed, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and recently completed training through the PAWS Orofino program. She learned a lot there, and it gave her a strong foundation to continue building confidence.

Maddie is sweet, observant, and truly wants to love and be loved. She is going to be a devoted companion for someone who understands that healing takes time. If you have a calm home, another friendly dog, and a heart full of patience, Maddie may be your perfect match.

Please consider opening your home and your heart to this very special girl. You can learn more about Maddy and apply to adopt at https://www.idahorescue.org/adoption

Idaho Animal Rescue Network Mission

Idaho Animal Rescue Network is a 501(c)(3) non-profit based in Idaho that works in Idaho and Eastern Washington to educate, advocate, and network with other rescues and law enforcement in Idaho regarding animal cruelty and neglect. We are a no-kill animal, all-volunteer rescue organization dedicated to ensuring that each animal that comes through our rescue is provided with a safe place to recover from their trauma. Each animal is provided with a loving, stable environment as they navigate the legal system. Every animal receives all necessary veterinary care in order to prepare them for their future furever home.

We place animals in loving, responsible, committed permanent homes, following a comprehensive adoption process which includes taking considerable care in finding good matches and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a dog into their homes and lives.

We strive to work with area shelters and other rescue and humane organizations to develop a network of supporters and volunteers in order to create a better world for animals.
