Greenbrier Humane Society

Greenbrier Humane Society We are open 11 AM - 5 PM, Tuesday-Saturday. There is no appointment needed for adoptions. ADOPTION PROCESS:

1. Do you have any other animals in the home?
(262)

We post all available animals in the respective "Available Dogs" and "Available Cats" photo albums.

2. If you are interested in adopting an animal seen in one of those albums, stop by our facility during open hours. You may need to bring the children or pets that will be in the home so that their compatibility with the animal can be assessed and we can complete a meet and greet.

3. Our staff w

ill interview you to determine if you and that animal are a good fit for one another. Here at GHS, we aim to facilitate successful, lasting placements. As a result, you may be asked some or all the following questions:

Do you rent or own your home? Are there children in the home? Have you adopted an animal from a shelter before? What veterinarian do you use, and would you be willing to list them as a reference? Do you have a fenced yard? Do you have any prior experience with the breed you are seeking to adopt?

5. If our staff approves the match after the meet-and-greet, you will complete all requisite paperwork and pay the adoption fee. The adoption fee is $65 for cats and $85 for dogs. This fee covers a variety of procedures and treatments including:

Spay/Neuter procedure

Flea and tick treatment

Heartworm test

Rabies vaccine

FELV/FIV test

DHLPPC or FVRCP vaccines

6. You will take your animal to their new home! Many smiles are involved and sometimes even some happy tears!

๐ŸŽ‰ Happy Birthday to Hayley Casto! ๐ŸŽ‰

Today we are celebrating one of our amazing Animal Care Team members, Hayley! Hayley has such a special connection with the animals in our care and always goes above and beyond to make sure they feel safe, loved, and well cared for. In addition to her daily animal care responsibilities, Hayley also assists with our in-house spay and neuter surgeries and plays an important role in the medical care of the animals at our shelter.

Her compassion, dedication, and hard work do not go unnoticed, and we are so grateful to have her as part of the Greenbrier Humane Society team. Thank you for everything you do for our shelter pets and our organization, Hayley! We appreciate you so much and hope youโ€™ve had a wonderful day celebrating! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’š

***Responsible Pet Rehoming***

His name is Padfoot, and he is a four year old male blue heeler, born near the end of March 2022. He is neutered and had his rabies and distemper vaccines in 2025. His tail is intact, as are his dewclaws.

Padfoot is high energy and loves to run and play, but is also somewhat of an escape artist. This makes living in a town or city somewhat of a danger to himself and any passersby that he might decide to chase. He gets along with the other dogs and cats in our home, but doesnโ€™t like new or unknown animals. He will sit and shake on command, and take treats gently, but is very easily distracted and needs constant attention to keep him focused.

He is used to sleeping in a kennel at night, and is housebroken. He started on puppy pads but has consistently went outside to use the bathroom for the past two years. He is easy to bathe, and enjoys playing in water. He enjoys walks and does well on a leash, but a harness works better for him than a traditional collar.

He is lovable, but not ideal around small children, as he doesnโ€™t understand how big he is, and gets hostile if someone like a small child would get in his face. Owners that work long hours or are gone for extended periods of time might not be an ideal fit.

His ideal home would be somewhere he could run and burn off energy, like a farm or rural setting, and he would thrive as an only pet.

Animal welfare can be exhausting work, and sometimes the best way to recharge is with good people, good music, and a little time together outside the shelter. ๐ŸŽถ๐Ÿพ
The team from Greenbrier Humane Society had a great time hanging out at Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company and cheering on our awesome veterinarian as he played with Cat Head Biscuit! Weโ€™re so grateful to have such a dedicated team both inside and outside of the shelter.
Caring for animals every day can be physically and emotionally demanding, but friendships, laughter, and community support make it all a little lighter. Thanks to everyone who helps us keep goingโ€”for the animals and for each other. ๐Ÿ’š
