It's official! Wellfarm Veterinary Consultants has graduated to the big leagues. We have joined Heritage Vet Partners, which is building a community of rural veterinary practices across the Midwest and mid-Atlantic. Our young practice will merge with Ironsides Animal Health (IAH), one of Heritage Vet Partners' premiere food animal practices. We will continue to serve the Roanoke region as we always have, but now with a more robust team and a new name :)

Growing this practice with our clients over the last 1.5 years has been a pleasure. Life and business have moved fast. Thank you all for your support in this tough but necessary field.

Botetourt Regional Cattleman's Association will be hosting an educational event on March 14th at 6pm at the Roanoke-Hollins Stockyard. All BRCA members are welcome to attend! If you're not a member, you can still join the event by paying a $15 membership fee at the door. Dr. Varnell (covering for Dr. Fenster) will be performing a necropsy on a chronic calf to show injection site lesions and lung pathology. The BRCA team has worked hard to put this event together. We look forward to a great turnout and a lot of new members!

We had the pleasure of working with Gray’s LAMBscaping to provide preventative services to nearly 600 of their working sheep. Our normal team was accompanied by some amazing vet students who all endured a few long days to be able to provide the best possible care to the flock. Every sheep got vaccinated, hoof trimmed, and was evaluated for overall health, providing individual treatments as needed. It wouldn't have been possible without some amazing teamwork and determination from everyone involved.

The portable chute has arrived! …and the heifer calves are concerned. Don’t worry little ladies, you won’t be in there for another 2 years. We will work the big gals on Tuesday!

Big thanks to Cave Hill Dairy Farm and Jeff Henderson for helping us unload, then surprising us with assembling it while we were out on appointments. Can’t wait to put it to use on all the Holsteins this week for herd check!

We were able to purchase this equipment with a grant from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture for enhance the capacity of rural food animal veterinarians. The equipment is from Save Cows Network in Wisconsin.
