BNI Fast & Furious

BNI Fast & Furious BNI Fast & Furious is a Lee's Summit, MO networking group providing a positive environment for the development of quality business referrals.

The philosophy of this organization is built upon the idea of "Givers Gain®": By giving business to others, you will get business in return. This is predicated on the age-old idea of "What goes around, comes around." Belonging to BNI is like having dozens of sales people working for you because all of them carry several copies of your business cards around with them. When they meet someone who cou

ld use your products or services, they take out your card and recommend you.* It's as simple as that! It's simple because it's based on a proven concept by BNI Founder, Dr. Ivan Misner, called "Givers Gain®." If I give you business you'll give me business and we'll both benefit as a result.

"I will be truthful with the members and their referrals."

Honesty builds credibility. Credibility builds trust.

That’s why referrals work.

Our second speaker this morning at BNI Fast & Furious was Whitney Sevy with Smiles By Whitney.

Whitney shared an incredible presentation about photography that goes far beyond simply taking pictures — focusing on capturing emotion, connection, authenticity, and milestone moments people want to remember forever.

One of the biggest takeaways:
Whitney doesn’t strive for “perfect” photos — she strives for photos that feel real. Her goal is for clients to look back at their images and feel the emotions of that moment all over again.
Whitney photographs a wide variety of milestone moments including:
• Engagements and weddings
• Surprise proposals and elopements
• Maternity and newborn sessions
• Family and extended family portraits
• Senior portraits
• Branding and headshots
• Conferences, workshops, and corporate events
• Fundraisers and galas

She also shared how customized every session is based on the client’s personality, style, and vision — creating a photography experience rooted in intention and connection.

Some of the most memorable stories included:
• Photographing the Chiefs Super Bowl parade
• Helping announce a pregnancy during a family photo session
• Wrangling three dogs during a newborn session
• Shooting weddings, events, and portraits in almost any lighting condition
• Doing “whatever it takes” to capture the perfect emotional moment

Whitney also emphasized that
photography is about preserving memories people can feel years later — not just documenting what someone looked like at the time.

Great referral opportunities for Whitney:
• Newly engaged couples
• Families needing updated photos
• Expecting parents
• High school seniors
• Businesses needing branding or headshots
• Event organizers and nonprofits
• Companies hosting conferences or fundraisers
• Anyone celebrating a milestone moment

As Whitney shared:“Photography is capturing moments so people can remember how it felt — not just what it looked like.”

First Speaker Highlight:

Our first speaker this morning at BNI Fast & Furious was Kurt Roberts with ReeceNichols — “Your Favorite Realtor.”

Kurt shared a great educational presentation on one of the biggest questions homeowners ask before selling:

“What improvements are actually worth the investment?”

He walked through several home upgrades that often sound great but may not deliver the return homeowners expect when it’s time to sell.

Some of the lower return-on-investment projects discussed included:

* Garage conversions
* Highly personalized renovations
* Sunrooms
* Swimming pools
* Overbuilt finished basements

One of the biggest reminders:
Just because something adds enjoyment to your home doesn’t always mean it adds resale value.

Kurt also shared several improvements that typically create stronger returns and help homes sell faster:

* Garage door replacements
* Paint and basic repairs
* Roof, plumbing, and maintenance fixes
* Improving curb appeal
* Decks and patio spaces
* Smart kitchen updates without overpersonalizing

Another important takeaway was that buyers notice the basics first:
Cleanliness, maintenance, landscaping, fresh paint, lighting, and overall curb appeal all make a huge difference when buyers pull up to a home.

Kurt also emphasized that before homeowners spend money on major upgrades, they should first focus on repairs and maintenance issues that could become objections during inspections.

Great referral opportunities for Kurt:

* Homeowners thinking about selling
* Families preparing a home for market
* Buyers wanting advice on future resale value
* People considering renovations before listing
* Anyone wondering which upgrades are worth the investment
* Families relocating in or around Kansas City

As Kurt shared, sometimes the smartest investment is not spending money in the wrong place.

People Don't Share Average Businesses

This morning at BNI Fast & Furious, Brad Harris with Herbalife shared a powerful Educational Moment that challenged all of us to think about one important question:

Are you average… or are you exceptional?

Brad reminded us that people don’t refer “average.”
Nobody is looking for an average restaurant, average service, or average experience. The businesses that get talked about, remembered, and referred are the ones that go above and beyond.

One of the biggest takeaways:
If someone uses your service today, are they still talking about you 3 or 4 days later?

That’s the difference between simply doing enough and creating an experience people can’t stop talking about.

Brad also shared how so many people focus on average results, average income, or doing just enough to get by — when the real question should be:
What would it take to become exceptional?

In business — and especially in BNI — referrals come from trust, reputation, and the impact you leave on people. The goal shouldn’t be to blend into the middle. The goal should be to separate yourself from everyone else through service, consistency, relationships, and the value you bring.

Exceptional businesses create conversations.
Exceptional people create referrals.

“Average gets forgotten. Exceptional gets referred.”

Thank you, Brad Harris with Herbalife, for the great reminder this morning.

Our first speaker this morning at BNI Fast & Furious was Misty "The Money Coach" Nance.

This morning she shared an honest message about debt, budgeting, and financial coaching.

One phrase connected with almost everyone in the room:

“I make good money… but where does it all go?”

Misty shared how many families are carrying $2,000–$3,000 per month in debt payments alone — not including mortgage or rent. Credit cards, car payments, personal loans, and student loans quietly pile up until people feel stuck living paycheck to paycheck, even with strong incomes.

As a Ramsey-trained financial coach who has personally been debt-free for nearly 10 years, Misty helps clients:

* Build emergency funds
* Create realistic working budgets
* Use the debt snowball method
* Improve communication around money
* Reduce financial stress
* Create plans for buying homes, paying for college, and building long-term stability

One of the biggest takeaways:
Debt coaching is not just about numbers — it’s about understanding how people got there and helping them create a roadmap forward without shame or judgment.

Great referral opportunities for Misty:

* Couples struggling to communicate about money
* Families living paycheck to paycheck despite high income
* Recently single individuals trying to reorganize finances
* People considering refinancing to pay off debt
* Anyone saying “I make good money, but…”
* Families who were never taught budgeting or financial planning

As Misty said:
“You can’t help people who don’t want help — but when they’re ready, everything can change.”

Our second speaker this morning at BNI Fast & Furious was Orlando Gutierrez who shared an eye-opening presentation on bank fraud prevention and how businesses can better protect themselves from financial scams and account compromise.

One of the biggest takeaways:Banks themselves are rarely hacked for money — fraud usually happens at the account level through scams, compromised emails, fake payment requests, stolen credentials, ACH fraud, check fraud, and card-not-present transactions.

Some of the common fraud threats discussed included:
• Business email compromise
• ACH and wire fraud
• Check washing and altered checks
• Credit card fraud
• Phishing scams and fake login requests

The presentation also highlighted how expensive fraud can become for small businesses:
• Tens of thousands lost through compromised accounts
• Chargebacks and inventory loss
• Stolen payments and unauthorized transfers
• Internal fraud from lack of oversight
Some of the best prevention strategies shared:
• Transaction alerts and monitoring
• Positive pay for checks
• ACH debit blocks
• Dual authorization for wires and transfers
• Multi-factor authentication
• Segregation of duties within accounting
• Daily reconciliation of accounts
• Employee fraud awareness training

One story that really stood out was a business owner discovering an employee had been skimming funds for over a year because one person controlled invoicing, payments, and reconciliation.

The biggest reminder:Fraud may be inevitable, but losses can often be prevented or minimized with the right systems, processes, and banking tools in place.

Great referral opportunities:
• Small business owners
• Companies handling large ACH or wire transfers
• Businesses without fraud prevention systems
• Owners wanting to improve internal controls
• Businesses needing safer banking processes
• Companies concerned about cyber fraud and scams
