A local farm will kick off the holiday shopping season in Douglas County with its Holiday Open Barn, featuring more than 30 local artists.

🐦‍⬛🖤 CROWS IN A BOWL — BY DT 🖤🐦‍⬛

What do you see when you look at something discarded? DT sees possibilities!

These Crows in a Bowl begin with something some of us would toss away: recycled egg cartons. With a little imagination, a creative eye, and a willingness to experiment, those discarded cartons become wonderfully quirky paper-mâché bowls ready for a new life as art.

DT has always loved making art from things that are discarded, found, or gathered from nature. She looks at the world through an artist’s eye, asking herself, “How can I turn this into art?”

And where does that way of seeing come from? DT credits much of it to growing up poor. When you learn to make do with what you have, you discover possibilities others might overlook. What some see as a limitation, she has come to see as a blessing—and one she is truly thankful for. ❤️

🐦‍⬛ Some of DT’s Crows in a Bowl are made to hang, while others are meant to sit and be admired. You’ll find them at Holiday Open Barn, and each one has its own personality!

Robin Proudfoot and DT created bowls together as a weekly artful time together and both women will have bowls available at HOB.

I'll be putting up the tree in the barn this weekend and starting to sprinkle a little Christmas magic around Historic Taylor Barn! ❤️

Oh, my gosh… it's getting REAL! The countdown is on, the excitement is building, and I can hardly wait to welcome everyone back for another wonderful year of Holiday Open Barn.

Transforming the barn, filling it with beautiful handmade treasures, and getting ready to share it all with YOU is one of my favorite things!

I am looking forward to seeing all your familiar faces, catching up, sharing a few laughs, and watching you discover your favorite artists and makers.

🎄😳 HOLIDAY OPEN BARN IS JUST TWO WEEKS AWAY! YIKES!!

So yesterday, I started a few of these primitive glass mosaic trees. Because apparently, two weeks out is the perfect time to start another project! 😂

I love these simple, primitive projects. No pattern, no plan… just wing it and see what happens! ❤️

Something about the old, the used, the broken, and the rearranged that really speaks to me. Pieces that may have been tossed aside find a new life, coming together in a way that’s a little imperfect, a little unexpected, and full of character.

That’s my kind of creating! No two will be exactly alike, and honestly, that’s part of the fun.

Now, if I can just get them finished before Holiday Open Barn 🤣🎄November 6–8 at Historic Taylor Barn. The countdown is ON! ❤️✨

🎄❤️ Tannenbaum Pillows — A Legacy of Love, Memories & Making Do ❤️🎄

My kind and gentle Grandmother Keller was a woman who embodied both frugality and love. She never wasted a thing, always finding new purpose in well-worn items that others might have discarded.

That spirit lives on through her unique and cherished Tannenbaum Pillows, lovingly crafted from tattered old quilts and well-used chenille bedspreads. What others might have seen as worn out, she saw as something worth saving, reimagining, and giving new life.

She taught me so much about making do, seeing beauty in unexpected places, and understanding that the things we hold onto often carry the most meaning.

These pillows are more than repurposed treasures. They are little pieces of history, stitched together with memories, resourcefulness, and love. And every time I think of them, I think of her. ❤️

What a wonderful reminder, especially during the holiday season, that the most meaningful treasures aren't always new or shiny. Sometimes, the very best gifts are those that carry a story, a memory, and a little piece of someone's heart. 🎄
