We lost a good one yesterday.

Big, sweet boy, Hank crossed the rainbow 🌈 bridge. He was loved by all throughout our years of caring for him. He had the best home, the most loving parents, and the sweetest sisters. We are so lucky we got one more chance to spend time with him over the summer 🐾💔

July was a BUSY month! We did over 1000 pet sits and took on 23 new clients. Let's meet some of our new pet friends!

This is Goose. He's a very playful boy who loves to fetch his toy springs. He has gorgeous markings and loved having company to interact with. We look forward to more time with Goose 🐾❤️😻

If you have the means to donate to the Lawrence Humane Society Pet Pantry, do it! It has a HUGE impact on our community members that are struggling.

Did you know that Lawrence Humane serves as Douglas County’s primary pet food pantry? We provide pet food 7 days a week to pet owners who need a little extra help to ensure that their pets don't go hungry. Last summer, a very generous friend of Lawrence Humane offered to build us a pet pantry database, which allowed us to track exactly how many households/unique pets we've been assisting....and we were blown away!

Some of you might be wondering why an animal shelter would also take on the task of helping feed owned pets. Well, it's because we believe that everyone experiences hard times at some point and financial circumstances are not an accurate measure of how loving a pet owner may be. We know from experience that if forced to choose, most pet owners will feed their pets instead of themselves, and that is a choice that we never want anyone to have to make.

By assisting owners with pet food, we can ensure that the families we are helping are able to utilize their funds to keep a roof over their heads, receive necessary health care, pay for utilities, and feed themselves.

✨Most of all, we believe that by providing this vital service, we can keep pets in the homes where they are already deeply loved by their current families and reduce the amount of animals surrendered. ✨And at a time when our kennels are already bursting at the seams and every day we're being asked to take in more animals, the most responsible - not to mention kindest - thing we can do is help loving pet owners keep their pets. And that means helping them *feed* their pets.

These one-year statistics affirm what we know from talking to pet owners every single day: The need for help is higher than ever and only keeps increasing. However, the pet pantry is stocked exclusively by donations and we are only able to give out as much pet food as has been donated...And we always need pet food donations!

She's chatty, has beautiful markings, is a petite little lady, and so very loving. We had so much fun playing and brushing during our first few visits, and we look forward to more very soon. 😻🐾
