This weekend, our after-school program in partnership with Frankie's Corner Thoroughbred Crusade, took an unforgettable trip to Kentucky to explore a whole new side of the equine industry!
All year, these students worked hard learning to clean stalls, groom, tack up, ride, and care for horses, and this trip was the perfect reward. We kicked things off at Spy Coast Farms, where we saw their rehab center, young horse development, stallions, and 14-day-old foals! Spy Coast Farm
Next up: the Kentucky Horse Park! Highlights included meeting champions like Andi’Amu and Marion Marauder (Trotter Triple Crown Winner), learning about breeds like the American Cream Draft, Andalusian, Fell Pony, and more, and watching stadium jumping at the Rolex Arena. We also loved the preparing to drive seminar in the draft horse barn, the history museum. Kentucky Horse Park
Our final stop was at Hill ‘n’ Dale where we met stallions such as Curlin, Army Mule, and Good Magic, saw newborn foals, learned about reproduction science and even crossed the bridge featured in Seabiscuit. Thank you to Hill 'n' Dale Farms for a wonderful and educational tour but also providing us with beautiful and serene accommodations.
Additionally, thank you to the Michigan Horse Council for helping provide additional funding for our amazing trip!
This trip was exciting and educational, opening many eyes to various careers and opportunities in the horse world.
