Guess what I'm doing in this excessive heat. Yup I'm thinking fall crops. Map out when your summer crops will be done and plan to transition to our cool crop varieties. Many leafy greens will tolerate colder temperatures, some even like a light frost. We say they get a little sweeter! No reason to despair when you can think fall on these ridiculously hot days! Stay hydrated and enjoy the season for now!

Not a gardening item BUT MSU sent me an email about this event for South Lansing residents, so I'm sharing:

Hi South Lansing,

My name is Samuel from Athlinics, and we have an exciting opportunity for the soccer boys and girls of South Lansing.

On Sunday, June 29, 2025, 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM, we are holding our Michigan State University Soccer Clinic!

Open to both boys and girls, the event will feature MSU’s soccer players — Emerson Sargeant, Taya Hjorth, Jack Guggemos and more — who will lead a skills training session and team play, concluding with a panel to speak with the players about student-athlete life at the Division I level. This event will take place at Hope Sports Complex, 5801 Aurelius Rd, Lansing, MI 48911, USA.

This is an incredible opportunity for your boys and girls, who will not only develop as athletes but learn about the collegiate athlete experience. Spots are limited, and we would greatly appreciate you passing this along to your young athletes and their families.

I spotted my first lily leaf beetles this morning. Tip--check your plants in the cool morning when they don't move as quickly. You can crush or down them in soapy water.
