π¨ We need your help, Kansas City!! π¨ In the first 12 days of June, KC Pet Project has taken in nearly 600 pets. By the end of today, that number will exceed 600.
Yesterday alone, we took in 39 dogs. Just dogs.
Our dog population has climbed to 239 dogs in our care, and we are quickly running out of space. If you've been following our daily intake numbers, you've seen it happening in real time.
Many of our larger dogs are housed in what we call Namaste Rooms, where a dog has access to an entire kennel run instead of sharing the divided space. These rooms provide extra room to stretch, relax and decompress, especially for dogs who struggle in a more confined environment. As more animals continue to arrive, we are having to divide full runs into two kennel spaces to make room. That means more dogs are losing access to the space they need to thrive, simply because there is nowhere else for new arrivals to go.
This is the reality of being Kansas City's open admission shelter. Right now, we urgently need adopters, fosters, volunteers, dog walkers and donors. Every pet who leaves our shelter creates space for another pet who needs us!
The need is constant, but so is the compassion of this community. If you've been thinking about getting involved, now is the time. ππΎ Thanks to our friends at Purina, we are helping 400 pets find new homes with $50 off adoption fees now through July 11th. Petfinder.com, Kansas City World Cup 2026
