The mission of the Michigan Bernese Rescue program is to take in purebred Bernese Mountain Dogs that are in shelters, or whose owners cannot care for them, or that have become lost and abandoned, and to place them in permanent pet homes in order to help provide a safe harbor for Bernese Mountain Dogs that might otherwise be destroyed or abandoned.

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION

REGGIE

Reggie was rescued from a kill shelter in Texas and was supposed to head to the midwest but his temp foster fell in love with him. Unfortunately after almost a year the senior dog in the family now is no longer accepting Reggie and he needs a new home.

He is a 2 yr old likely Bernese/Shepherd mix, UTD on vaccines and is neutered. Reggie is sweet, loving, and playful. He is a quick learner and already knows his basic commands. He’s a great listener, comes when called, and is both potty trained and kennel trained. He’s social by nature and even attends doggy play groups at a local daycare, where he gets along beautifully with his furry friends.

He’s respectful and well-mannered. Been around cats, chickens, and livestock without issue.

Reggie would thrive in a home with children and other pets to play with. He has so much love and joy to share. He loves attention, affection, and cuddling. He has the sweetest personality and is very passive.

Reggie might need extra time to warm up to some men.

He responds well to gentle leadership and positive reinforcement.

Does Reggie feel like the best dog to add to your family? Please fill out an application for him. Reggie is currently in Texas but transport help is available.

Hey everyone! Who is coming to Grand Ledge tomorrow?
Heart of Michigan Bernese Mountain Dog Rescue group has been making great raffle baskets and the photographer and our 2 vendors are still planning to be there but we'd love a count so we can make sure people will be there as several of us are traveling a couple hours to make this event happen.

Please comment below if you are still planning to make it.

We are keeping a close eye on the weather & hope not to cancel if enough people respond they are coming and we'll pray the weather apps are accurate for no rain until around 6pm.

Happy to start at noon or 12:30 also is that's better due to how the weather looks. Location is Fitzgerald Park in Grand Ledge.

Claire
Bernese Mountain Dog
6 years 5 months, Spayed Female

🏡 Claire's perfect home would be a loving home with another dog to continue to learn from & be pals with and patient humans. She's now retired from being a puppy mama and learning what life in a home is all about. She's doing great and becoming braver every day. Having a confident dog pal to help her is needed for sure.

🐈 Coexists peacefully with cats in the foster home

🔶 She will need a physical fence to need to continue to build her recall. So far she hasn't spooked easily but you never know what could spook her so a fenced yard is a must.

🐶 Favorite thing: It's simple, just wants LOTS of LOVE from her humans.

🔶 Claire does well left home alone. No crate needed. She has been alone for full workdays, with another dog.

She'll be good with kids of all ages.

She is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines. Last time she was weighed she was around 75lbs.

She is currently being fostered near Indianapolis, IN so you will need to travel there to meet her, adopt her and bring her home.

We do adopt out of state, you must travel to her foster home in Indianpolis, IN to adopt though.

If Claire sounds like the perfect dog to add to your family please fill out an application.

We are an all volunteer rescue so it may take us a few weeks to get back to you.

If you have an application on file from the last 6 months please email your interest in Claire to [email protected]

Cuteness Alert!

Lois is a wee bit girl looking for her perfect home. She is a 9 month old mini-Bernedoodle weighing in at 13 pounds. She is as lovable as they come.

She is healthy other than possibly needing to put on a few pounds. She gets along well with the resident doodle and loves to play.. She has not been cat tested but appears to have a low prey drive.

She loves to snuggle more than anything! She loves all humans too but does like to jump so small toddlers may not appreciate her exuberance. A bit more training in this area would be helpful.

She is crate trained and will be ok in there for a few hours daily. She also loves to play with balls and her daily walks. She does well on a leash and she is happy to ride anywhere in the car and is small enough to hide in your purse.

If you want a true lap dog then Lois is your girl.

She is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines.

We do adopt out of state, you must travel to her foster home in Grand Rapids, Michigan to meet her

If Lois sounds like the perfect dog to add to your family please fill out an application.

Meet Dexter!
Dexter is 3 yrs old. Neutered and UTD on his vaccines.
He is looking for an experienced family preferably without another dog to settle in with. He's not liking the female dogs he's been with. A calm male could be fine buta meet up will be required. Cats and older kids are ok. Fenced yard is required.

We are looking for a family to help him pretty quickly as he isn't settling in well with his new foster and is stressed out around the other dogs and is becoming grumbly.
He will need a family that is familiar with this breed and behavior and can give him time to decompress in a new home as he is uncertain where his family went and now where he is. He is a big Berner at 108 lbs so if he's not wanting to do something you don't force him. Patience and time is what he needs.

He is located near Grand Rapids and you will have to travel to meet him and bring him to your home.

If you feel you are the family for him and can help him transition to be the great Berner he is please fill out an application.

Our Story

We are a group of Bernese Mountain Dog lovers dedicated to helping Berners in need. In 2017 we had about 60 needy dogs come through our program. We are all volunteer and are a network of foster homes. Every dog that comes in is a member of our family. They stay in foster homes, are fully vetted and receive all the love and care they need. We are always in need of volunteers, donations and foster homes. If you would like to help please let us know!
