It would seem that Mother Nature and Pele have teamed up to put on an early summer show for the Big Island. Earthquakes, big ocean swells, and another Kฤซlauea eruption have combined to create a spectacular display of nature's power. And now, the Kona Kat Cafe can add โfloodingโ to the mix after a water pipe broke and partially flooded our shop.
While we wait for the restoration experts to work their magic, we've temporarily moved down the hall for a few days. Our rescue cats and kittens may no longer have their Catio to romp around in, but they're grateful to have dry paws and plenty of loving attention.
Through all of this, we really have just one thing to say...
MAHALO!
The Big Island has an incredible community of people who come together to help when it's needed most, and we are feeling that support in a big way right now.
A heartfelt Mahalo to:
๐ฑ Our rescue partner, Catsnip, and their amazing team, who were ready with carriers and cars to transport the cats where they needed to go.
๐ฑ The wonderful team at Aloha Animal Oasis, who were willing to let the cats stay with them if needed, and were ready with a truck to help transport.
๐ฑ Our property management team at SVN, who have been incredibly responsive and supportive and gave us a temporary space down the hall for the cats and our shop for a few days. Thanks too for the new tenant coming in to allow us to use the space.
๐ฑ And finally and most importantly, our incredible Kona Kat Cafe staff, whose dedication, compassion, creativity, and can-do spirit cleaned up the mess and transformed an empty space down the hall into an amazing little "pop-up" cat cafe in 4 hours!
And to all of our visitors and friends, Mahalo from the bottom of our hearts. Your kind messages, encouragement, and support remind us every day why this community is so special.
Our mission has always been simple: to make the world a little friendlier and share a little more Aloha, one rescue kitty at a time. Thanks to all of you, that mission continues โ floods, earthquakes, eruptions, and all.
We hope to see you soon at our temporary pop-up location. The kitties are safe, dry, and always happy to make new friends.
