Hot weather can become dangerous quickly for pets.

Make sure animals have access to shade, fresh water, and rest during the hottest parts of the day. Avoid long walks on hot pavement, never leave pets in parked vehicles, and watch closely for signs of heat stress.

Warning signs may include heavy panting, weakness, drooling, vomiting, confusion, collapse, or bright red gums.

Heatstroke is an emergency. If you are worried your pet is overheating, call a veterinarian right away.

Now is the time to check your pet’s microchip before fireworks season gets busy.

More pets go missing around loud celebrations because fear can make even calm animals bolt, dig, climb, or slip out a door.

Before July arrives:

- Make sure your pet is microchipped
- Confirm the chip is registered
- Update your phone number and address
- Check that collars and ID tags fit properly
- Ask about anxiety medication early if your pet struggles with fireworks

Do not wait until the last minute. Call us now so your pet is ready. (405) 246-9900.

Veterinary medicine is full of long days, hard decisions, happy reunions, emergency calls, tiny victories, and deep compassion.

To our doctors, technicians, assistants, reception team, and everyone who helps care for patients behind the scenes, thank you for the work you do!

Fostering saves lives, but it can also come with questions.

If you are fostering a pet this summer, we can help with wellness checks, parasite concerns, vaccines, behavior questions, and general care guidance. Whether the pet is staying for a few days or a few months, good veterinary care helps them feel better and become more adoptable.

Thank you to the foster families who open their homes and hearts to animals in need.

June is Pet Preparedness Month, and summer is a good time to make sure your pet’s emergency plan is ready.

Take a few minutes to check:

Current microchip information
Updated ID tags
A copy of vaccine records
Anxiety medication is filled
Extra medication if your pet takes daily prescriptions
A carrier, leash, or crate that is easy to access
A plan for severe weather, travel, or unexpected evacuation

A little preparation now can make stressful moments much easier later.

Warm weather can bring a surge in fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, and intestinal parasites.

That means summer is an important time to stay consistent with prevention. Heartworms are spread by mosquitoes, and fleas and ticks can cause more than itching. Parasites can affect your pet’s comfort, health, and in some cases, the whole household.

If your pet is behind on heartworm, flea, or tick prevention, give us a call. We can help you get back on track.

Summer is an important time to think about equine vaccine protection.

EEE, WEE, and tetanus are serious diseases that horse owners should not overlook. Mosquito activity, wounds, and environmental exposure can all increase risk.

If your horse is due for vaccines, now is a good time to review their protection and make sure they are current.

Call Jones Veterinary Clinic to ask about equine vaccine recommendations.
