We're dedicated to exemplifying and fostering compassion, reliability, and responsibility in Jacksonville. Animal Care & Protective Services is the City of Jacksonville's animal shelter. Monday - Saturday we receive anywhere from 50-100 dogs/cats per day. These animals are found stray, owner surrendered or saved from animal abuse situations. Please go to www.coj.net/pets to look at all of our lost

dogs and cats that we have. Please consider adopting a dog and/or cat from Animal Care & Protective Services. All of them need homes.

Three words, Duval: insane. heat. index. 🔥

This time of year, but this week especially, we urge you to be EXTRA careful when you have your pets outdoors for even just a short time. Asphalt, concrete, sand, and even grassy areas, are hotter than air temp. Check out the first photo: almost 112 degrees!! And for reference, that ground temp was registered at 6:30 PM last week... and it's supposed to be even hotter in the upcoming days.

Heatstroke gets very serious very quickly. Look out for any potential symptoms of heatstroke (like the ones in this https://buff.ly/Av19mII video, for example) and take action as quickly as possible.

Swipe through for just a snapshot of Pickles' journey: from intake, to DDO favorite, to rocking a new tag in his adopter's home... to celebrated by his very own crew! 🐾

For those of you who don't remember our post from a few months back (http://bit.ly/4197ENP) about how we came to know Pickles, we'll give you a quick recap:

🥒 A good Samaritan found this sweet dog as a stray and planned to keep him
🥒 Pickles quickly got sicker and sicker, and his owner tried everything to help
🥒 He eventually came to our Pet Resource Center, desperate for answers
🥒 Our vet team took him in and spent months getting him healthy
🥒 Pickles then quickly became a volunteer and community member favorite
🥒 He landed a foster home thanks to some A+ teamwork and networking
🥒 Pickles easily charmed that foster and they officially adopted him!
🥒 And finally, a happy, healthy Pickles was even the center of attention at a reunion of the "Pickle Patrol" crew just this past week ❤️

Pickles is one of those dogs that just has that ~it~ factor that makes EVERYBODY love them, and he's a great example of the bonds a community can form when it rallies around a goofy, endearing shelter pup. His Patrol, made up of the volunteers who worked so hard to keep him out of the stressful, crowded shelter, show how much shelter dogs touch the lives of the people who love them.

So congratulations, Pickles!! And to his Patrol, please feel free to send pics of future get togethers 😉

She's ready for her closeup! 🤓 📸

Allow us to introduce you to Varska, the sweetest sweetest SWEETEST girl who needs a soft, snuggly place to land. When she came to us, she was severely emaciated—she even has wounds on her hips from being so thin—but thanks to our vet team, she's been making slow progress. The best thing for her would be to get some quiet rest and relaxation in a home while she continues to heal. ❤️

Join us this Saturday for our first-ever Barks and Recreation adoption event at Springfield Dog Park! 🌳 🐶 We're SUPER excited to join City of Jacksonville, Florida - Government and JaxParks to highlight one of Jacksonville's historic parks and celebrate the role of our parks in contributing to a sense of belonging, community, and enhanced health and quality of life for everyone, humans and dogs alike.

We'll have adoptable dogs at the park from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM—just look for our and come say hi! ❤️

These 8-week-old future heavy metal superstars will be available for adoption TOMORROW! Interested adopters are also able to place a prepay if they stop by the shelter before then.

Not ready for ~crazy~ puppy shenanigans? We feel ya! We’ve got over 300 older dogs who can’t wait to meet you ❤️

Happy belated ! Congratulations to Dodge, Perro, Tripp, Juliet, Tiger, and Cookie on being just some of our shelter pets who found amazing fosters and adopters this week 🥳 ✨

We also got to see ✨ 14 ✨ cats go home from Riverside Arts Market Meow-Ket on Saturday alone (but they were too camera shy to photograph)!! We continue to feel overwhelmingly grateful for your support as we save lives, Jacksonville.

It was a gooood weekend! Thank you to everyone who showed up to support by adopting, fostering, volunteering, Dogs Around Duval-ing, donating to Bo's Hope and to our shelter dogs and cats, and more. 36 dogs in loving homes in just 3 days is AMAZING and means there's enough room in our shelter for more of our dogs to have their own kennels. Grateful is an understatement. ❤️

We're still offering FREE adoptions ($20 city license for Duval residents) on dogs and puppies at 2020 Forest St. in Jacksonville, Florida 32204.

Meet Roxie! 👩‍🦳 Roxie is about 7 years old, and while a noisy, crowded shelter isn't an ideal retirement home, she's trying to make the most of it. Her volunteer friends have taught her "sit" and "come" and even how to wait patiently while they leash her for walks. Speaking of walks, expect to take your time with this lady: she loves loves loves to sniff and she's an avid birdwatcher— a true senior pastime if we've ever heard one. 😜

Unfortunately, this is Roxie's second time in our shelter; she was adopted shortly after being found as a stray in 2019. We're not sure how she ended up as a stray again a few months ago, but we really, really want to see her (and her crochet sweater and hair rollers, of course) doing her very favorite old-lady things in a home!

Sound like your type? Been thinking about adopting, but not sure if it's the right time? Come meet her! We are still waiving ALL dog and puppy adoption fees until we reach last week's goal of ‼️100 ‼️ dogs in loving homes, so this just might be a sign that it's meant to be. ❤️
