Last Sunday, we were lucky to have CH Dressage come teach a group of us at Ravenswood Farm. Winter riding can be some of the best time for thoughtful learning. We’re so grateful we had such a great day with lots of things to think about before the torrential rains hit everyone. We can’t wait until it calms down and we can think more about riding and clinics again. Hope everyone is staying safe out there!

💯 This!
I’m always telling my students whether specifically dressage or not they are going to be always working on their flatwork fundamentals and I encourage all my students to try different experiences and cross train into different disciplines as much as is safe and comfortable for both horse and rider to keep things interesting and varied.

On Sunday, I was mostly just thinking about keeping my livery rent horse straight on the Hunt and he was fabulous but it was just simple dressage basics that got us *talking* together to have a good time.
Yesterday, I schooled my client’s dressage horse over a cavaletti exercise to work on his rhythm, balance, and cadence in his trot and canter. He’s an OTTB and can get pretty anxious but I could tell he was having some fun with the obstacles and really being thoughtful; such a good boy!

Come let one of our JumpStart Training clients show you what you can do to work on your riding fitness when you’re not at the barn!

Mark your calendars! This Sunday at 1pm we are welcoming one of our own boarders for the next educational talk. Join us with Laura Su, Liberate Strength to discuss exercises designed with the equestrian in mind!

Happy Thanksgiving from JumpStart Training
Thankful every day for our wonderful village and the time we get to spend together with the horses that inspire us. Hope everyone enjoys a great holiday season surrounded with family and friends and as many tasty treats as the horses get!

If you didn’t see me at the barn a lot this weekend, I was at the LandSafe Equestrian https://www.facebook.com/landsafetraining Clinic learning about gymnastics and awareness skills to reduce the risk of injury when we have one of those unfortunate days that result in coming off our 🐎 partner sooner than we planned. Rider education regarding important tumbling techniques and body placement to protect our most important parts and limit/prevent serious injuries and then applying these learned skills to a simulator for practicing emergency dismounts while rearing, bolting, and rotational falls is all part of the comprehensive program.
The fall education and muscle memory training is basically how fast can you get from your good equitation position to a totally new position when the ground is coming at you and a 1200lb animal might be coming into your path too!
As anyone that knows about me and my program knows, rider safety is paramount so it just makes sense to get a good understanding of the Land Safe System. Thank you so much to Anni Grandia at Grand Farms Team Chaos for hosting this weekend’s clinic-they will be touring again in Washington in Fall 2027!
I’m glad I got to talk to Danny and Keli at their United States Eventing Association, Inc. (USEA) convention booth and I was not disappointed with the clinic!

While there was a ⛈️ in Detroit causing a weather inclement 2:53 delay of the ALDS game between Seattle Mariners @ Detroit Tigers, we had a lovely afternoon for riding 🐴 in Issaquah/Seattle, Washington. My JumpStart Training horses took great advantage of the fall ☀️

Today ended up being a special day but just the beginning of a jump start of what will be many more!
My loyal student finally got to get back on her horse after months of maternity leave and Luke took very good care of her 🥰 They looked like they hadn’t missed a beat. So excited to get them back on track together 💕

Sometimes the best summer training ride for the 🐎 thoroughbreds is a trail ride out in the woods. ☀️🪾🍃
Luke started out pretty jazzed 🎉 and he was excited to be at the show. After a short arena session, a chance to check out his surroundings which were quite peaceful and bringing him back down to rideable levels we headed out and he got pretty electric ⚡️ again jigging into the start box. We started out on a pretty short step and had to take some pauses to try to get a stretch but he started out having trouble keeping up with his friend with such a slow step (or run!). His veteran buddy Chance was such a good guide for the baby who just kept walking along telling him through horse sense everything was fine and this was all that was going to happen. Luke started breathing and unlocking fairly quickly and realized it wasn’t so bad not having to be all bound up. Enjoyed a little playtime in the second arena and got them moving a little more before heading back out which he maintained a nice, relaxed neck with a big stride and no problem keeping up. He was a pretty happy boy with everything he was faced with
Sometimes there’s no better training for your red head training horse than getting them off the property for a little walk in the park and some hills with their best buddies
