At this point we are using pictures of adoptable animals off the shelter's Petfinder page. Our hopes for the future are to be able to provide better pictures along with posting the pictures of new incoming strays as we

ll. Please understand that most animals are brought in as strays and there is no known history. It is best to bring your children to meet any potential adoption and required to bring currently owned dogs for a meet and greet with the dog you're looking to adopt. SHELTER LOCATION:

DIRECTIONS:
Exit #67 off the I-96 expressway. Go North on M66 for approximately 3 miles. Turn Right at the stop light onto David Highway (Right Way Carpet/Portland Credit Union will be on the corners.) Continue for a 1/2 mile, shelter is on the left or North side of road. There will be a road sign says Sparrow Dr and an Ionia County Animal Shelter sign which is blue. HOURS OF OPERATION:

•SATURDAY, SUNDAY AND MONDAY - Closed
•TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY - 11:00 a.m. To ensure ample time for proper adoption, no adoptions will be done after 5:15pm. We are closed for all National Holidays. ADOPTING A FRIEND:
PLEASE NOTE: They can only take cash, personal checks or money orders for any type of payment. Any animal that is surrendered by its owner and is adoptable will be available immediately once it has been updated on its vaccines including Rabies and has been spayed/neutered. All strays that come in will be held for 4 business days if it has no identification, and 7 days if it does (by state law) then will become available for adoption once it has been updated on its vaccines including Rabies and been spayed/neutered. An adoption application must be filled out and reviewed. Puppy Adoption: $160.00 All puppies will be current on age appropriate vaccines, wormed, microchipped and spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Dog Adoption: $160.00 All dogs will be current on age appropriate vaccines, heartworm tested, microchipped and spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Ionia County Residents will also purchase a 1 yr dog license for $10 which will be added to the adoption fee. Cat/Kitten Adoption: $60.00 All cats will be current on age appropriate vaccines, wormed, spayed/neutered and microchipped prior to adoption.

An updated video to appease the mind of many commenters on our video of Jane.

She has blankets, as well as raised bed. Her brother, Thor, is in the kennel with her. Our floors are also heated at the shelter to hopefully provide as much comfort as possible to the animals in our care.

Thank you so much for all the shares and views. These dogs will definitely have a loving home for the holidays! Come on out and meet them!

Update for the many comments we have gotten. This video only shows half of her kennel. She has multiple blankets in there with her. Her brother Thor is also in the kennel with her. This video was taken as he was outside. Fun fact as well, our floors are heated, she she is not laying on a cold floor.

This is unfortunately an all too common reaction for newly surrendered dogs. 😔💔

They’re terrified. They tremble. They shut down. And generally no matter how much our staff tries to comfort them, nothing can replace the feeling of home for them.

This is Jane, she’s a 4 year American Bully. She, and her housemate, Thor, were brought in due to their owners apartment complex not allowing their breed.

They are both unbelievably heartbroken.
They’re good with most dogs, cats & kids.
They’re potty trained and good in the home.
✅YES, she has a bed & blanket.
✅ YES, she is with her housemate, Thor.

Titan is still very much a puppy. He’s a GSD x Malinois that currently weighs 82 pounds. So he’s a big boy.

Very nice temperament…Social, goofy. Very toy motivated. He’s good with most dogs. He would be best with older kids as he’s quite mouthy, and frankly, lacks manners right now. 😂

He has some prey drive, so we believe he would do best without cats.

This is a super nice, fun dog that is eager to learn.

Our little warrior, Juju!

Juju came to us extremely sick, with a ruptured eyeball. The eye was removed yesterday, leaving only an under developed other eye, making him visually impaired.
He may be able to see a little bit, possibly shadows. But he is the SWEETEST.

And to top it off, he’s a bobtail!
He would do best in a calm home that he can navigate easily.
