🌾🐀 What Is Barn Hunt? 🐀🌾

Barn Hunt is a dog sport that taps into a dog’s natural hunting instincts in a safe, structured way.

Dogs search through a course of straw bales to locate a safely enclosed rat tube hidden within the maze. Along the way, they must ignore empty tubes and stay focused on the real target.

It’s not about speed alone.
It’s about scent discrimination, problem-solving, teamwork, and confidence.

Any breed can play.
Big, small, mixed, purebred — if they have a nose and curiosity, they can learn the game.

As teams progress, the courses become more complex:
More turns.
More distractions.
More strategy.

What makes Barn Hunt so fun to watch is the moment a dog “locks in” — nose down, tail working, brain fully engaged.

Did you know?

One thing I tell all my dock diving students is that sometimes the biggest improvement in jumping doesn’t come from the dock at all…

…it comes from lap swimming.

A lot of dogs benefit tremendously from spending time simply swimming:
💦 building rear-end strength
💦 improving body awareness
💦 increasing endurance
💦 learning how to move efficiently through water
💦 and most importantly — building confidence

Confident swimmers often become faster, more committed jumpers because the water itself stops feeling overwhelming or uncertain.

Some dogs don’t need more “jump reps.”
They need more comfort, more trust, and more experience in the water.

That’s why we spend time talking about the WHY behind training during our closing lecture — because understanding the dog in front of you matters just as much as throwing the toy farther.

And honestly? One of the least expensive ways to get a LOT of swimming time for your dog is through our Open Dock Memberships.

Look What’s Coming to NorCal!!! The NADD Mobile Dock will be making it way to NorCal next month!

The San Jose event is a qualifier for next years Regionals! They will also be in Roseville. Our rescue, Infinite PawsAbilities will have our rescue dogs at the Roseville event! Come see us at both places!

Swimming and jumping are incredible outlets for high-energy dogs, especially during the long summer months.

And honestly…most dogs sleep VERY well after pool day.
