Friends of Rescue Friends of Rescue (FOR) is an all-volunteer, foster-based nonprofit in Huntsville, AL, saving dogs and cats in need.

We provide vet care, safe foster homes, and help animals find forever families while promoting spay/neuter and responsible pet ownership. Adopt Atlas – Our Longest-Waiting Adventurer 🐾
Atlas is a 4-year-old Catahoula mix who has been in the rescue program for almost 4 years, and we truly don’t understand how this incredible dog is still waiting for his forever home.

Atlas is great with other dogs and enjoys having canine friends. He is cat-friendly, but he can be a bit much for them since he always wants to play—so he’d do best in a cat-free home or one with a very tolerant, confident cat.

This guy is active, athletic, and always ready for an adventure. Walks, outings, and staying busy are his jam, so he’ll need an active family who can keep up with his enthusiasm for life. Atlas does have some separation anxiety, but it is very manageable and continues to improve with routine and structure.

And here’s the really cool part—Atlas has competed in THREE OneWorld Canine Biathlons and absolutely crushed it, even placing 2nd in one of his races! 🏅 This dog has both brains and brawn.

Mama of the “Baby Birds” litter at Friends of Rescue!

Dove’s story began when a kind Samaritan in Athens noticed she was pregnant and needed a safe place. She was brought into rescue just in time — and has been an absolute joy ever since.

True to her name, Dove is a very talkative girl, constantly cooing and chirping like a little bird. She has stunning green eyes, a gentle nature, and is incredibly affectionate — she even loves belly rubs!

Dove is easygoing and gets along wonderfully with everyone, including cats, dogs, and kids. She has also been the most attentive, devoted mother to her kittens, raising Budgie, Sparrow, and Pigeon with patience and care.

She currently still has three kittens available — Budgie (boy), Sparrow (boy), and Pigeon (girl) — and would love to be adopted with one (or more) of her mini-me babies if possible.

Rosieta is a beautiful 4–6 year old German Shepherd looking for her perfect forever home. This sweet girl absolutely loves people and has a calm, easygoing personality that makes her a wonderful companion.

She would do best as the only dog in the home, or with a male dog her size or larger. Rosieta already knows commands like sit, lay, and shake—she’s a smart girl who enjoys showing off her good manners! She is both crate trained and housetrained, making her an easy addition to the right home.

How adorable is this sweet little girl?! Meet Katie — a 6-month-old possible Border Collie mix with puppy energy, a sweet soul, and a playful personality that keeps life fun. At around 25 pounds, she’s the perfect size for adventures, couch cuddles, and supervising the household full-time.

Katie was found tied to a tree in a busy area, but despite her rough start, she’s remained incredibly loving and gentle. She can be a little timid when meeting new people, but once she knows she’s safe, she turns into a total affection addict who wants nonstop pets and attention.

She loves chew toys, gets along great with other dogs and cats, and has fully embraced her self-appointed role of “cat herding specialist.” Katie is also doing wonderfully with crate training and is already showing how smart and eager to learn she is.

Katie is looking for a patient, loving family who will continue helping her build confidence and give her the happy ending she deserves. In return, she’ll provide endless laughs, loyal companionship, and plenty of puppy entertainment.

Sparky is the perfect mix of active adventure buddy and laid-back cuddle companion. He would love to join you for walks, runs, or hikes, but he’s just as happy curling up beside you for a cozy nap or relaxing at home.

He’s a well-mannered boy who is potty trained and can be trusted to have free roam of the house. He’s also crate trained if that’s your preference when you’re away. Meet Guinness 🖤

Guinness is a 5-year-old black pittie with a calm soul and the gentlest heart—and thanks to a generous donor, his adoption fee has been fully sponsored. 💫

Found as a stray and never reclaimed, it’s hard to imagine how anyone could have let him go. Everything about him feels like he once belonged to someone who loved him deeply—and now he’s patiently waiting for that love again.

At around 48 lbs, Guinness is the definition of easygoing. No jumping, no chaos—just soft eyes that quietly ask, “Will you love me?” He takes treats politely, walks nicely on leash (and might even “walk” you a house or two), and is crate trained. He rides well in the car, though he’ll need a little boost getting in—he’s just not a jumper, not even onto furniture.

Guinness prefers peace over chaos. He does well with both small and big humans and seems happy to meet other dogs, especially those his size or smaller. He’d thrive in a home looking for a steady, affectionate companion rather than a high-energy pup.

Meet Chloe 💕🐾

You can call her a house hippo or a pittie-potamus, but we just call her Sweetie. Chloe is the definition of a loyal companion—she’ll happily shadow you wherever you go, always ready to be by your side.

This lovable pocket pittie is happiest when she’s cuddled up with her people, but she also has a fun, playful side! Chloe enjoys playing ball, wrestling with her foster brother, and showing off her “bitey face” championship skills. She’s comfortable in the car, loves going for walks, and doesn’t mind relaxing in her crate (though she’d definitely prefer a cozy spot next to you).

Chloe does well with cats and would thrive in a home with a submissive dog sibling. She can be reactive to movement outside when in the house or car, but she’s doing great with the help of medication, which keeps her feeling happy, balanced, and part of the family.

Happy Caturday from Sol ☀️

Sol is a gorgeous orange tabby with the perfect blend of playful spirit and laid-back charm. He’s past the kitten chaos but still brings plenty of classic orange cat energy—curious, fun, and full of personality.

This sweet boy is a true people cat. Sol adores adults and children alike, is gentle with everyone he meets, and happily soaks up affection. When he’s especially content, he’ll even reward you with some happy drools—his signature move 🧡

Sol does well with dogs just fine. He eats Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein food for his sensitive tummy (IBS) and has done wonderfully on it.

Neutered, microchipped, and fully vaccinated, Sol is ready to bring his sunshine into a forever home.
