🐛 Have you heard about the New World Screwworm?

While this parasite is not currently established in the United States, it remains a serious concern for animal health. New World Screwworm larvae can infest open wounds and cause severe tissue damage in pets, livestock, and wildlife.

We've put together this infographic to help you learn what it is, how it spreads, and what signs to watch for. Staying informed is one of the best ways to help protect our furry family members!

ADOPTABLE CATS 🐈‍
Bert, Ernie, Maggie, Millie, and Sweetie Pea were born on September 26, 2020.

Bert and Ernie are neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Bert is so funny. When in your lap, or laying next to you with his head on side of your lap, he loves for you to pet him. Ernie doesn't always sit like a statue but when he does it's to get attention. They both love to play and chase each other. They have not been around dogs or small children.

Maggie, Millie and Sweet Pea are spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. They love playing and hanging out with their people. The girls are all fairly independent and enjoy doing their own thing while being Queens of he castle. They have no been around dogs or small children.

Think arthritis is just a “dog problem”? Think again, up to 90% of cats over 10 years old show signs of arthritis… they’re just very good at hiding it.

Instead of limping, cats show subtle changes like:
• Jumping less or hesitating before jumping
• Grooming less (or getting a “scruffy” coat)
• Sleeping more or avoiding interaction
• Changes in litter box habits

If your cat “just isn’t acting like themselves,” pain could be the reason.

The good news? We have more options than ever to keep them comfortable and moving well 💙

📞 Let’s talk about pain management options for your kitty!

Tiny but mighty. 🖤

This sweet 8-week-old girl came to see Dr. Moran, and while she was a little shy, she’s already showing us just how brave she can be. With a little patience, a cozy blanket, and some gentle encouragement, we know she’ll be coming out of her shell in no time. 🐾

Ever notice your cat pulling food out of their bowl… or refusing to eat unless it’s on the floor?

It might not be picky behavior, it could be whisker fatigue.

A cat’s whiskers are highly sensitive and packed with nerve endings. When they constantly brush against the sides of a deep or narrow bowl, it can become uncomfortable or even stressful over time.

Signs your cat might be experiencing whisker fatigue:
• Pulling food out of the bowl to eat
• Eating less or seeming hesitant at mealtime
• Pawing at food or acting “finicky”
• Preferring to eat off flat surfaces

The fix is simple!
✔️ Use a shallow, wide dish (think plate-style)
✔️ Avoid deep or narrow bowls
✔️ Keep feeding areas calm and low-stress

Small changes can make a big difference in your cat’s comfort and make mealtime enjoyable again 🐱💙

To my Feline Medical Center family,

After nine incredible years, it’s hard to put into words what this place has meant to me. When I moved from West Virginia to Texas, I never could have imagined how much love, growth, laughter, support, and purpose I would find within these walls. What started as a job became a second home, and the people here became family.

To my coworkers: thank you for every late night, every emergency, every difficult case, every laugh in treatment, every comforting hug, and every moment we stood beside one another caring for the cats we love so deeply. Veterinary medicine is not always easy, but sharing it with all of you made even the hardest days meaningful. I will forever cherish the friendships and memories we created together.

To our clients: thank you for trusting me with your beloved cats through every stage of life. It has been an honor to celebrate healthy visits, comfort sick patients, support you through difficult decisions, and love your babies as if they were my own. Your kindness and trust have meant more than you know.

And to all of my feline patients: thank you for the cuddles, head boops, purrs, scratches, sass, and unforgettable personalities that filled my days with joy. Every single one of you left paw prints on my heart.

As bittersweet as this goodbye is, life is calling me back home to my roots in West Virginia. And while Texas gave me a chapter I will treasure forever, “Country Roads” are truly taking me home.

No matter where life takes me next, a piece of my heart will always remain here at Feline Medical Center.
Thank you for everything.

With love and gratitude,
Jenn
