🐓 It was an honor to be the FEI Veterinary Delegate for the Houston Dressage Society CDI2* in Katy, Texas this weekend! 🐓

It was a blast having Dr. Miles Hildebrand as my vet teammate as the VSM for the show. Thanks for coming all the way from Wellington!

I have grown up at Great Southwest Equestrian Center, from showing as a Young Rider to judging the NRBC on A&M’s collegiate horse judging team, to working as a treating veterinarian when I founded in 2016. It’s truly surreal to be able to share the legacy this facility has and support equine athletes as they show off their hard work and talent.

Thanks, HDS and the FEI for letting me support the horses.

🄳 Happy Birthday šŸŽ‚ šŸŽ Little One!

In a rare turn of events, it was for Dr. Guardia today. Congratulations to our lovely clients whose very nice performance mare had a beautiful surprise foal last night. Dr. Guardia had the joy of checking her over and insuring she’s healthy. You can’t beat the sound of baby nickers and fuzzy foal ears 🄰🐓

šŸ“£FEI CDI Competitors!ā€¼ļø

If you’re competing in the Houston Dressage Society FEI CDI Dressage Event this coming week at Great Southwest Equestrian Center, here are some quick reminders from your Veterinary Delegate:

1. Make sure you have uploaded all of your horse’s vaccinations correctly to the FEI HorseApp. They all must be uploaded prior to arriving. FEI rules, not mine šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

2. Download or update the latest version of the app to make sure it’s working correctly the day of arrival. Complete your temperature log the three days prior to arrival and your Self Certification Report via the app. If these aren’t done, the FEI will issue a sanction. Again, I have no control over those. That’s the FEI’s thing.

3. Read the current FEI Veterinary Regulations for 2026 (link in comments). It’s the Athlete’s responsibility (the ā€œPRā€, or ā€œPerson Responsibleā€) to know and adhere to all of the rules. We will help you understand and interpret them if you’re unclear. We are here to help, so just ask, especially beforehand.

4. Make sure you come to the ā€œExamination Upon Arrivalā€ with your thermometer and passport ready to go. You cannot enter the stabling until you clear the examination.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask me! I’m the Veterinary Delegate and that’s a big part of my job.

🌟Bandaging 101šŸŒŸšŸ‡šŸ¾

A bandage should protect a limb—not create a new injury.

One of the most common mistakes I see is applying Vetrap alone, pulled too tight, which can act like a tourniquet. The result? Swelling above or below the bandage, pressure damage to tendons and soft tissues, and in severe cases, long-term injury that could have been completely avoided.

A proper lower limb bandage is never just Vetrap. It should include:
• A clean, even padding layer (standing wrap or cotton)
• Consistent, even tension—not tight in one spot and loose in another
• Support applied from front to back and inside to outside
• A finish that is secure, but not constrictive

If you see indentations, heat, or swelling when you remove a bandage, that’s a red flag 🚩

Done correctly, bandaging supports healing. Done incorrectly, it can cause real damage.

Part of my job isn’t just treating injuries—it’s helping you prevent them.
If you’re not 100% confident in how you’re bandaging, I’m happy to teach you step-by-step so you can do it correctly every time. Send me a photo, ask questions, or schedule a visit—I want you to feel confident caring for your horse.

Your horse’s legs deserve precision and care šŸ¤
