A Second Chance for Prissy: A Community Comes Together to Help a Rescue Dog Walk Again
HOLMEN, WISCONSIN | October 27, 2026
At just two years old, Prissy has already endured more hardship than any dog should have to experience. Abandoned in Shreveport, Louisiana, she found herself on a euthanasia list, her future uncertain. Thankfully, the compassionate women at the Pola Foundation stepped in to save her. They raised money for her veterinary care and boarding, cared for her for six months, and never gave up on finding her a rescue placement. Eventually, Prissy was tagged by Driftless Rescue in Holmen Wisconsin.
Through the dedication of rescue volunteers and transporters, Prissy made the journey from Louisiana to Wisconsin, where she was welcomed by Driftless Rescue, a small, foster based, nonprofit animal rescue serving the Driftless Region.
We hoped Wisconsin would be the beginning of a happier chapter for Prissy, a chance to leave her difficult past behind and finally experience the love, safety, and comfort every dog deserves. Unfortunately, her journey took another unexpected turn.
An Accident Changed Everything
While in Wisconsin, Prissy was involved in an accident after jumping out of a vehicle. What initially seemed like a minor injury turned into a much bigger challenge. Veterinary evaluation revealed that Prissy needed a tibial plateau leveling osteotomy, commonly known as TPLO surgery, to address a serious knee injury.
For a small nonprofit rescue that depends on donations and community support, an unexpected medical expense of this magnitude can be overwhelming. We knew Prissy needed help, and we were determined to do everything we could to give her the care she deserved. After everything she had already endured, we could not give up on her now.
A Community With Heart
When we shared Prissy’s story, something wonderful happened. People began reaching out, donating, and sharing her story with others. Local businesses and generous individuals stepped forward. Through crowdfunding, small raffles, individual contributions, and generous donations from local businesses, we have raised approximately $4,000 toward Prissy’s surgery.
Every single contribution has mattered. Every raffle purchased, every donation made, and every person who shared her story helped bring us closer to the day Prissy could receive the surgery she needed.
It is easy to underestimate the impact of a small donation, but when people come together for one little dog, those individual acts of kindness become something extraordinary. Because of this community, Prissy has been given another chance.
Prissy’s Surgery Day
On October 27, Prissy underwent her TPLO surgery with Dr. Mark Hein and his incredible team at Wisconsin Veterinary Orthopedics.
We are so grateful to Dr. Hein and his staff for providing Prissy with the specialized care she needs. Knowing she is in the hands of an experienced orthopedic team brings us hope as she begins this next chapter of her journey.
Surgery is a major milestone, but Prissy still has recovery and rehabilitation ahead of her. She will need time, patience, and careful monitoring as she heals.
When we think about everything Prissy has survived, it is difficult not to feel emotional. Here she is, still moving forward, with people who care about her cheering her on! She may never understand how many people have come together for her, but we know she has felt the love every step of the way.
Just $600 Left to Reach Our Goal
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, Driftless Rescue has raised approximately $4,000 toward Prissy’s surgical expenses. We have just $600 left to reach our fundraising goal.
We are asking our community to help us finish raising the funds for Prissy. If you are able to contribute, no donation is too small. If you cannot donate, sharing her story can help us reach someone who may be able to help.
Together, we have already accomplished so much. We are hopeful that we can raise the final $600 and put this part of Prissy’s journey behind us so we can focus on what matters most: her recovery.

From the Bottom of Our Hearts, Thank You
Prissy’s story is about so much more than an injury or a surgery. It is about compassion, second chances, and the people who refuse to look away when an animal needs help.
She was once an abandoned dog whose future was uncertain. Today, she has a team of people caring for her, a veterinary team helping her heal, and an entire community rooting for her!
We wish every dog waiting for a second chance could experience the kindness Prissy has received. Her journey reminds us why rescue work matters, even on the hardest days, and why we continue to fight for the animals who cannot fight for themselves.
To everyone who has donated, purchased raffle tickets, supported our fundraisers, shared Prissy’s story, or offered words of encouragement, please know how much you mean to us. Your generosity has helped make her surgery possible, and we are more grateful than words can express.
Thank you for believing in Prissy. Thank you for believing in our mission. Most of all, thank you for helping us show one deserving dog that her life matters.
With heartfelt gratitude,
April and the Driftless Rescue Team
