Paws4Survival Rescue Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of Puerto Rico street dogs.

Paws4Survival is a nonprofit (501c3) organization dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of Puerto Rico street dogs. We provide veterinary care, shelter, and socialization in a daycare facility to prepare these dogs for adoption in the New York and New England area. Our strategic plan focuses on the town of Arroyo in the Southeastern part of the island, however we always help with pleas from l

ocal rescuers. Within Arroyo, there are two beach areas, Playa Chiropolis and Malecon in which we work to keep the dogs safe from animal control. Our volunteers provide basic shelter, food and water and care is provided until an opening in our program is available. Dogs that are not candidates for our program are captured for spay/neuter and returned to the beach to live under our care.

Methuselah was found by Gloria on her way to the shelter.

He did not stand a chance in Puerto Rico . He would not be adopted as he is old and frail. No one wants an old dog that needs medical attention :( … we smile at Glorias unique name for him as he does look like he could be 969 years old… ❤️

1 month old or 969 years old… we will take them all…. And find them a place to be happy with whatever time they may have left.

A heartwarming, feel good happy ending to wrap this holiday weekend. 🐰🫶🏼🐾

A few months ago, Rick’s house suffered a horrible fire and his beloved Puppy perished 🥲. Rick is always next door from our shelter . The moment we met him years ago, we knew his pups were Satos just by looking at them :) After the fire, Rick was broken inside and we had a transport coming up from the same shelter his dog was from. Our amazing partner . We talked with Kathy and decided to ask Rick to foster. We sent him 7 photos of different pups and he picked Coqui to foster.
Coqui and Rick had an instant connection. While Puppy can never be replaced, after two years in a shelter. Coqui found her family and Rick fell in love with another sato that will help heal his heart.

Expresso was a little extra so we added the X to his name :) … When Expresso and his sister Martini traveled from Puerto Rico for forever homes, Martini was adopted immediately, Expresso needed the perfect family to understand he can sometimes be like the energizer bunny and doesn’t have an off switch :)

Valerie and Terry were looking for a younger dog to be a playmate for sweet Rowan. Rowan and Expresso have a brother Guinness but he is older at 14 and doesn’t romp around. Valerie and Terry traveled all the way from Minnesota to adopt our sweet gem and as you can see everybody is all smiles :)

For the past 4 years I have been tossed around like a hot potato until finally Halifax Animal Control found me by a lake early this week. Investigative work shows 4 families have left me and tossed me from home to home.

I am almost half the weight I should be (I’m 38 pounds and should be 60)

I have frostbite all over my ni***es that make them black and pronounced.

My ears and skin are horrible..

I wish I could tell you how long I was outside for to be in such terrible shape but I am not sure and all the ladies that met me yesterday said it was so so sad…
But despite all this I am happy loving boy ❤️

All that is behind me now , so stay tuned for updates …

Hey guys, it’s me again - Thumper!

I came all the way from Puerto Rico because everyone thought I needed surgery for something called a diaphragmatic hernia (whatever that is - I was just happy to be on an adventure!). But yesterday, I went to a big vet hospital called Tufts in Grafton, and the doctors found out something even more serious…
I’m missing part of my sternum! That means there is nothing protecting part of my heart and lungs. There’s no surgery that can fix it - I’ll always be a little more fragile than other pups.
BUT here’s the good news: there’s a special vest I can wear that will help protect my chest. It’s kind of like my own superhero suit! Or maybe it'll make me look big and tough like the military dogs! Either way, it’ll help keep me safe while I live my best life.
Since the vest is gonna help protect my heart, it's a little expensive. If you’re able to help my rescue cover the cost, I’d be the happiest, most protected pup around. Even a small donation would mean the world to me. 💛
Thanks for loving me and keeping my little heart safe — in more ways than one.

Thumper is asking Thor what the potential tragedy could be tonight on The White Lotus finale… what are your thoughts? If you are right we will send out a sweatshirt to whoever can figure it out before tonight … so many possibilities!!

Keep in mind Thumper is a 4 month old schnauzer/border collie mix with an amazing beard and Thor is a year old XL American Bully. Both are on our website for adoption and patiently waiting for forever homes.

Well his name was Fredo but now it’s Thumper. Why you may ask? Thumper trots around the house and sounds like he is as big as a Rhino. 🤪🤪 Did I mention his adorable white beard an indication of a schnauzer black lab mix of complete perfection.

Thumper is 3 months old and came up for PR for a hernia surgery that will be performed next week at Tufts. After that this boy will be ready to trot his way right into your heart and home, white beard and all :) ❤️

**Lobo’s Incredible Journey: From Euthanasia List to Loving Forever Home**

Lobo’s story is one of resilience, second chances, and the power of a community coming together to save a life.

On December 28th, hours before he was scheduled to be put down, Lobo was pulled from the euthanasia list at Animal Care Centers (ACC) in Queens, NY. His owners had surrendered him after he developed dermatitis, unable to care for him any longer. It was a heartbreaking situation, but thankfully we stepped in and gave Lobo a fighting chance.

After being rescued, Lobo made the long journey to Massachusetts to begin his road to recovery. Over the next three months, Lobo received the care and attention he so desperately needed. The veterinarians at *Braintree Veterinary Care* worked tirelessly to get him back to health, and finally, the moment arrived, Lobo was given the all-clear to be adopted!

Now, it was time to find the perfect family for Lobo. Enter Johanna and her wonderful family, who immediately saw beyond Lobo’s grumpy face and fell in love with his sweet, unique personality. Today, Lobo is living his best life with a new cat and dog siblings, along with two human brothers who adore him. They’re always ready to romp, play, and shower Lobo with all the love he can handle.

Lobo’s journey is a reminder of how much can change in just a few short months when we all come together to give a life-saving hand. We are beyond grateful to everyone who played a part in his rescue and recovery, and we couldn’t be happier that Lobo has found his perfect family. His story is proof that every life is worth saving, and that there’s always hope, even in the toughest of circumstances.

There are times when rescue posts may be exaggerated , this however is not one of them…

Lucas was rescued in Puerto Rico not associated with any rescue. Just a family on vacation that 1 year and 4 months later has had enough. They had already scheduled a euthanasia appointment for him last week but we have until March 31st to get him safe and sound. Lucas met a cat today, 2 pitbulls, several small dogs and a puppy and was perfect with all. He is a sweet love despite the abuse he has endured. He has an unknown trauma to one eye and will potentially need eye removal that we will care for. Please let’s get Lucas safe from his death sentence from his heartless family. Foster needed in the Northeast. Please share as much as possible, this is serious. Do not make comments that you wish you could or already have 2 dogs we need a solution right now, and someone who is serious in their heart to help this precious boy.

The hills are alive with the beauty of Lalo 🐾🐾🐾

Lalo comes to us from our partner where he has been waiting about half a year to travel for a forever home. We are so thrilled his time is now :)

Lalo is 1 years old, about 50 pounds, and a very good boy. He looks primarily like a Wheaten Terrier perhaps mixed with schnauzer… he is a handsome bright soul with beautiful coloring and an exotic fluffy tail with darker colors.
He loves dogs of all sizes and adores human affection and love.

Even though our shelter partners in Puerto Rico are at full capacity due to the ongoing challenges of poisoning, car accidents, and starvation, we couldn't turn away 9 cats and 6 dogs from Save A Sato and Restore A Pet's Heart. Over the next week, we’ll be highlighting the dogs who’ve been with us for months and introducing you to our newest furry friends. Look at our new traveling crew! A huge thank you to the fosters who stepped up to make this possible! We couldn’t do it without you. Changing one life at a time with the help of all our supporters🐾❤️

Lucas is a 1-year-old pup who’s already been through so much. Rescued from the streets of Puerto Rico, he’s now in Lawrence, MA, but his future is hanging by a thread. With no place to go, Lucas is at risk of ending up in a shelter, and that’s the last thing this sweet boy deserves. He’s been lucky to survive so far—will you be the one to give him the loving home he’s been waiting for? 💔

Meet Lalo, a sweet 1-year-old, 49-pound Bernedoodle who has spent the last 6 months in a cage in Puerto Rico, waiting for his chance at a better life. He’s good with other dogs and is ready to find a foster home in the US where he can get the love, care, and forever family he deserves. 🐾💙
