For 50 years, Hilton Head Humane has worked to protect and care for animals in our community — including those without homes or owners to advocate for them.

In 2025 alone, 2,140 feral cats went through our feral cat program at no cost to the community.

And from January through April 2026, another 746 feral cats have already received care through this lifesaving program.

These efforts help reduce overpopulation, improve quality of life for community cats, and create a healthier future for animals across the Lowcountry.

As part of our 50th Anniversary Fundraiser, we’re working to raise $50,000 by June 21 to continue programs like these for years to come.

Teaching an Old Cat New Tricks

Rambo came to the shelter at 16 years old after his owner passed away. His family stated that he was semi-feral and had been living in the garage, which was modified to accommodate him. It turns out, Rambo LOVED indoor life in our Adoption Office. Whether he was stealing hearts or stealing snacks, he was always happy-go-lucky (for a grumpy old guy). He started wearing sweaters and even learned how to walk on a leash. His advanced age and diminished health intimidated adopters, but a wonderful family fell in love with this dapper senior and brought him home to his sister, Vera, a HHH alumna who was also a special needs senior cat.

John had only just found his forever family, but it seemed he already knew he was safe. Curled up in his new mother’s arms, the tiny black kitten drifted off to sleep before even leaving the shelter. With his eyes growing heavy and his little body completely relaxed, John trusted the warmth and comfort holding him close. It was the beginning of a new chapter—one filled with love, security, and endless cuddles—and his first nap as a cherished family member. 🖤🐾

Look at Piper go 💕
This sweet girl is a 1-year-old, 47 lb black and white terrier mix, and we could not be more proud of how far she’s come.
When she first arrived, Piper needed time, patience, and a whole lot of love—but now? She’s a brand new dog. Watching her out in the yard, happily playing with her bone and wagging her tail says it all. She has truly made a full 180 and completely turned things around.
Piper has blossomed into the happy, playful, and confident girl we always knew she could be, and seeing her joy is the best reward 🐾
This amazing girl is available for adoption at our Okatie Campus, and she’s ready to bring all this love and happiness into a home 💖
