When searching for a trusted pet care provider, it helps to understand what kind of service you're looking for—and what questions to ask to make sure your pet receives the best care possible. Here’s a guide to help local families make informed decisions:

Understand the Type of Service You Need:

Drop-In Visits
Brief 20–60 minute visits for feeding, potty breaks, playtime, or medication. Best for pets who are comfortable being alone most of the day.

Dog Walks
Routine walks around your neighborhood, providing exercise, relief, and stimulation during the day.

Day Care (In-Home)
Daytime sitting in your home. Ideal for pets who need companionship, supervision, or multiple potty breaks, like puppies or seniors.

Overnight Stays
A sitter stays in your home overnight, offering evening/morning care and continuous presence—helpful for pets with anxiety, medical needs, or those who aren’t used to being alone.

It’s a week of celebrations! Depending on where you’re located, you may be celebrating Canada Day (July 1) or Fourth of July this Friday (U.S.).

🎆As fireworks displays, cookouts/barbecues and parades are underway, make sure your pet’s safety and comfort are top priorities for your celebrations!

👇PSI encourages pet parents and pet professionals to keep these tips in mind:

✅ Keep pets inside during celebrations (+ close all doors and windows and play the tv or calming music for your pet).
✅ Make sure your pet wears an identification tag and that your microchipping records are up to date with your current contact information.
✅ Watch out for unsafe foods and decorations, and make sure your guests know not to feed your pets.
✅ Use the services of a professional pet sitter if you’ll be away from home.

Dog Access Updates for Hilton Head Island Beaches – Summer 2025

General Beach Rules for Dogs:
Dogs are allowed on Hilton Head Island beaches during specific hours, depending on the season. Dogs must always be either on a leash or under positive voice control.

Seasonal Schedule for Dog Access

October – March
• Dogs allowed on the beach at any time
• Must be on leash or under voice control

April – Thursday before Memorial Day
• 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM: On leash only
• 5:00 PM – 10:00 AM: On leash or under voice control

Friday before Memorial Day – Labor Day
• 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM: Dogs not allowed on the beach
• 5:00 PM – 10:00 AM: On leash or under voice control

Tuesday after Labor Day – September
• 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM: On leash only
• 5:00 PM – 10:00 AM: On leash or under voice control

Important Update: Restricted Area Near Fish Haul Beach

To comply with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service permit tied to the 2025–2026 Hilton Head Island Beach Renourishment Project, the Town of Hilton Head Island will amend its municipal code to restrict all dog activity near Fish Haul Beach, across from Mitchelville Freedom Park.

This area is home to endangered shorebird species and will be clearly marked with signage. The restriction applies to an area about 600 feet from the public beach access and roughly the size of two football fields.

This site has limited existing activity and is uniquely affected by tides. No other beach areas will be affected by this restriction.

Please respect these rules and help protect local wildlife while enjoying the beach responsibly.
