Last night, I witnessed something truly special at our hospital. Teddy came in as a critical emergency less than an hour of closing. I was in the back of the hospital working on management tasks, when I heard the team spring into action.

It wasn't just the impressive speed at which everyone worked that struck me; it was the way they all worked together, focused, and seamlessly treating Teddy—a 6 month old puppy in fragile condition- with the utmost gentleness and care.

As many of you know, I truly believe this compassionate approach and genuine teamwork is a vital part of the healing process. Last night, watching our team carry this culture into an emergency filled my heart with gratitude.

A special shoutout to Dr. Rachel Herwehe Jennifer, Jessica, Morgan, Grant, Jess, Olivia, Lex, Genevieve, and our incredible team of doctors who came together to save this little one last night.

I’m so happy to share that Teddy has made a great recovery and is already starting to play with his family canine companions! 🐾

Is there any better feeling?! To love and be loved.

Some days we really do get to snuggle puppies and kittens all day. How lucky we are! ♥️

😱🐾 “Oh no… my dog just ate [insert mystery gross thing]!”

Sound familiar? Here’s your vet-approved game plan:

1️. Call us, Poison Control, or your Emergency Vet immediately- time is everything when toxins are involved.
2️. Know what they ate: Packaging, plant name, or leftover chocolate stash. Those details help us act fast.
3️. Don’t DIY it: No inducing vomiting unless a vet says so. Some toxins are trickier than a cat in a bathtub.
4️. Stay calm & safe: Keep your pet contained and comfy while help is on the way.

Our team was very lucky to participate in some critical care training to help grow our skills in basic life support and CPR for animals. We feel better equipped to navigate these challenging moments with confidence.

This type of hands on learning is so valuable and we are thankful for the time and expertise of Ashleigh Elander with Vets Pets as she brought the RECOVER Initiative training out of a computer screen and into our hospital.

Happy Birthday to the one and only Dr. McLean!

May every day be filled with this amount of love and adoration. You deserve it (and then some)!

Here’s how to help your pets adjust like the good boy/girl they are:
👶 Start early: Gradually introduce new sounds, scents, and routines. (Baby cries from YouTube are fair game!)
🏠 Keep their space sacred: Make sure they still have a cozy, calm zone to retreat to when life gets hectic.
💞 Reinforce the love: Don’t forget those cuddles and praise. A little reassurance goes a long way.
🐶 Practice makes perfect: Try short “training” sessions around baby gear or new routines so nothing feels brand new on day one.

Remember, change can be ruff! But with patience and prep, your pet will adjust beautifully. 💕
