The Humane Society of Sumner County is seeking a PART-TIME KENNEL TECHNICIAN.
Position Summary
The Part-Time Kennel Technician plays a vital role in the daily care, comfort, and well-being of animals housed at our facility. This position supports a clean, safe, and nurturing environment while assisting with feeding, sanitation, enrichment, and general animal care. Ideal candidates are dependable, compassionate, and comfortable working hands-on with animals of all sizes and temperaments.
Key Responsibilities
-Provide daily care for animals including feeding, watering, and monitoring overall health and behavior
-Clean and sanitize kennels, cages, dishes, bedding, and common areas according to safety protocols
-Walk dogs and assist with supervised playtime and enrichment activities
-Assist with intake and transfer of animals as needed
-Observe animals for signs of illness, stress, or injury and report concerns to supervisory staff
-Maintain a safe, calm, and humane environment for animals and staff
-Assist with laundry, supply restocking, and general facility upkeep
-Follow all animal handling, safety, and sanitation procedures
Qualifications
-Must be at least 18 years of age and have reliable transportation
-Must be available to work part time hours Tuesday-Saturday between 7AM-4PM and Sunday and Monday between 7AM-2PM
-Genuine compassion for animals and commitment to their welfare
-Ability to safely handle and restrain animals of varying sizes, breeds, and temperaments
-Comfortable administering medication, vaccines and blood tests (training provided)
-Comfortable performing cleaning duties in an animal care environment
-Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs
-Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
-Prior animal care experience is a plus but not required (training provided)
Schedule & Work Environment
-Part-time hours, including weekends and holidays as needed
-Work is performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
-Fast-paced, physically active role involving animals and cleaning tasks
-Adoption Center is open to the public 10AM-4PM Tuesday through Saturday
-HSSC shirts (provided by the center) will be worn so that visitors can distinguish between employees/volunteers
