Meet Bandit! Hound Heelton had the privilege of fostering this sweet little guy, while he recovered from injuries he sustained, prior to coming to the shelter. We at Hound Heelton are honoring the heroes who helped save so many, on this day, 24 years ago. We honor the humans and their dogs, who were part of the search and rescue teams on 09/11/2001.

During the 9/11 attacks and the aftermath, over 300 search and rescue (SAR) and therapy dogs were deployed to Ground Zero, the Pentagon, and many temporary landfill areas. These canine heroes and their handlers worked tirelessly for months in dangerous and toxic conditions, searching for survivors and offering comfort to first responders.
