🎆 Prepare Now, Stay Calm Later! 🎆

Fireworks may be fun for us, but they can be terrifying for pets. 💥🐶🐱

As we get closer to the 4th of July, take steps now to help your furry friends feel safe and secure:

🔒 Make sure your pets are indoors and microchipped
🎶 Try white noise, music, or the TV to muffle booms
🐾 Create a quiet, cozy hideout with their favorite items
💊 Ask us about calming supplements or medications
📛 Check ID tags and collars just in case

Let’s keep them calm, safe, and snuggled this holiday! ❤️

🚨🥑 Vet Visit: Foreign Body Emergency 🚨🥑

This morning, we had a visit from Dallas the dachshund after his owner witnessed him swallow an avocado pit. Thankfully, she called us right away, allowing Dr. Doty to quickly step in with a treatment plan to induce vomiting before the pit could lead to serious complications. 🐾

Dallas sat patiently while the meds got to work—and to help keep him clean and comfortable during the process, we gently pulled his ears back with a soft hair elastic so they wouldn’t get messy. He looked extra cute and wore it like a champ! 💚

Sure enough, the avocado pit came back up—along with a few blueberries. While blueberries are safe for dogs, avocados can be risky. The flesh may cause mild stomach upset in some pets, but it’s the pit that poses the bigger threat. Its size and shape make it a choking hazard and can lead to intestinal blockages, especially in small breeds like dachshunds. In many cases, this could require emergency surgery if not caught in time. 🏥

🩺 This is a great reminder: If your pet ingests something unusual or potentially harmful, call your veterinarian immediately. Quick action often prevents complications—and in Dallas’s case, it made all the difference.

We’re happy to report he’s back home and resting comfortably thanks to his attentive owner and Dr. Doty’s timely care. 💚

☀️🐾 Hydration Station: Keep Your Pets Cool This Summer! 🐾☀️

The heat is on—and our furry friends feel it too! Help them stay safe and refreshed with these simple summer tips:

💧 Keep the Water Flowing – Make sure your pet always has access to clean, fresh water. Refill bowls frequently and place extras around the house.

🧊 Cool it with Cubes – Toss a few ice cubes in their water bowl to keep it chilled longer (plus, some pets love to play with them!).

🍦 Frozen Fun – Try pet-safe frozen treats or make your own with broth or peanut butter (xylitol-free!). It’s a tasty way to cool off.

🌳 Shade & Shelter – If your pet is outside, be sure they have a shaded, cool area to rest. Never leave pets in a hot yard or car!

🧴 Bonus Tip – Short walks during cooler parts of the day (morning or evening) help prevent overheating.

Let’s keep those tails wagging and whiskers happy—one splash at a time! 💦🐶🐱

☀️💦🔥 Keep Your Pets Safe This Summer! 🔥💦☀️

Summer is here, and while we love the sunshine, our furry friends need some extra TLC in the heat. Hill Country Animal Hospital is here to help you keep them safe and cool with these quick tips:

📌 Hydration is a Must: Always provide fresh, clean water. Refill often—dehydration happens fast!
📌 Walk Smart: Walk early or late to avoid hot pavement and peak temps. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws!
📌 No Hot Cars—Ever: Even with windows cracked, temps rise dangerously fast. Never leave pets in the car.
📌 Shade & Splash Zones: Make sure outdoor pets have shady spots and consider a kiddie pool for cooling off.
📌 Know Heat Stroke Signs: Heavy panting, drooling, vomiting, or collapse
📌 Groom, Don’t Shave: Regular brushing helps, but shaving too short can expose pets to sunburn.
📌 Mind Hot Surfaces: Decks and patios can burn paws—always check before letting pets hang out.
