July is National Pet Hydration month! We all know how important it is for us to stay hydrated, and it’s just as important for your pet to be adequately hydrated.

Your pet needs 1 oz of water per 1 lb of body weight each day. And if your pet is outside, it’s important to take measures to provide clean water at all times.

It doesn’t take much in this heat for a pet to become dehydrated or over heat, so take the necessary precautions now in order to keep your pet hydrated and cool!

Fourth of July is right around the corner, and for most pets it can be a traumatic celebration. Each year many pets are lost due to getting loose and running away in fear of all the fireworks. We don’t want that for your pet, so we’ve shared a few tips to help keep your pet safe for your 4th of July celebration.

Also, when it comes to all the yummy celebration foods, it’s best to avoid sharing them with your furry loved one. Instead, we suggest going ahead and stocking up on some of your pets favorite pet-friendly treats. This way your pet can still enjoy a yummy treat without the possibility of experiencing tummy issues.

And if you’re pet is microchipped, make sure that the registered information is up to date, just in case!

Parvo is a serious illness that can turn fatal. It’s important to make sure you vaccinate your pets from the start. If you’re unsure if your pet has been vaccinated against the parvo virus, speak with your vet.

The cost of vaccinating your pet against this illness is extremely low compared to the cost of treatment should your pet become sick with parvo.

If you suspect your pet may have parvo seek treatment ASAP through your veterinarian.

Looking for another healthy frozen treat your pup will enjoy? We found another one that we’re sure will be a hit!

Ingredients:

1 ½ Cups Seedless Watermelon
5 Ounces Plain Greek Yogurt

Tools Needed:

Food Processor
Silicone Dog Bone Mold
Pan or Plate to Set Mold On

Instructions:

Chop watermelon into large chunks.
Place watermelon and yogurt into a food processor and blend until smooth. This picture will be very thin.
Pour the contents into your mold (be sure the mold is on a cookie sheet or hard, flat surface as silicone trays like to bend and fold once filled).
Place in the freezer for 2-3 hours or until solid.

05/05/2019

If you’re thinking about getting a new kitten or puppy to add to your family, it’s important to make sure your new furry loved one is on a regular vaccine schedule. Vaccinating your pet is a good way to ensure your pet is healthy, as vaccinations help to fight against potentially deadly diseases.

With kittens the FVRCP vaccine protects against rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, and panleukopenia. The FELV vaccine protects against feline leukemia.

With puppies the Da2 vaccine protects against canine distemper and canine adenovirus. The bordetella vaccine protects against the common bacteria that can lead to kennel cough.

And with both cats and dogs, the rabies vaccine protects against the rabies virus. It is also required by law for your pet.

After your new furry loved one reaches 12 weeks and has received all of the vaccinations recommended, it is important to keep them up-to-date annually.

If you have questions regarding any vaccinations for your pet make sure to consult with your veterinarian.

If you need to schedule your pet for his/her vaccinations, please call our office.

We all enjoy giving our beloved pets treats at times, and sometimes those treats are some of our very own favorites! Not all of our favorite foods are safe for dogs to eat though, so it’s important to be aware of what foods we feed our dogs.

This chart shows just a few of the common favorite treats we enjoy and if you should share these favorites with your pet.

Always consult your veterinarian if you’re not sure if a food is safe for your pet to enjoy, as well as if your pet has a reaction to any foods and treats they’ve consumed.
