Adventure On πŸΎπŸ–€ No small dog runs and closures here!

OKC's campervan builders Dirt Road Campers' newest adventure brings your dog out of the boredom of traditional daycare settings with Astroturf and small enclosures and lets them romp, dig, run and swim on their 2 acre country land. Dirt Road Dogs was created to allow for more nature focused fun and allow your dogs to fulfill their biological drives in a safe way with competent, dog knowledgeable s

taff present to facilitate safe play and happy pups. We are Juliana and Alex and we run Dirt Road Campers, building and selling custom campervans for every adventure. We, along with our three dogs - Sadie, Willow and Raven have cultivated a fun, exciting life dedicated to making awesome memories centering our pack of pups. We have traveled across the country, backpacked through Utah, swam in the ocean and paddle boarded in every body of water available with our pups. But we know sometimes you can't take them along and when that happens we hope to provide a safe and exciting place for them. A place we, self-identified crazy dog lovers, would feel comfortable leaving our best friends. Our vision is to open a large multi acre dog boarding and daycare facility focused on daily pack walks, swimming in ponds, focused play groups and generally letting dogs interact and run through nature in enclosed, safe ways. While we take steps to build that one of a kind facility for the OKC metro area come tour our mini-scale version we have on our property, meet the girls and see if we are the right home away from home for your dog. We can't wait to meet you!

Everyone please give a big DRD welcome to our newest member of the training family, Max!

Max is an adolescent Golden who struggles with his social manners, listening and general engagement with humans. We are going to be working together for the next few weeks on his foundational skills like name recognition, building a lure, mark & reward system and hopefully teaching him some better manners so he can start having safer social interactions. He is a sweet and rowdy pup and we are excited to get to work with him! Let's go Max! 🐾❀️

It's not goodbye, it's see you later 🐾
We drove Grace 1,420 miles across the country to her new family this week. We knew when Grace came back to us that she would likely spend the rest of her days with us unless the 1 in a million family would come along. Well, that family came along. My own! That's right, Grace is staying in the DRD family and we will continue to get daily updates on how she transitions to life in the garden state. She has two kids to spoil & play with her and a backyard full of squirrels to chase and try and catch. Congratulations Grace. We will miss you around camp. ❀️

-I'm a Malinois.

Overskilled among dogs, I excel in all disciplines and I'm always ready to work: I NEED to work.

But nowadays I get asked to chill on the couch all day everyday.

-I am an Akita Inu.

My ancestors were selected for fighting bears.

Today I get asked to be tolerant and I get scolded for my reactivity when another approaches me.

-I am a Beagle.

When I chase my prey, I raise my voice so the hunters could follow.

Today they put an electric collar on me to shut up, and you make me come back to you - no running - with a snap of your fingers.

-I am a Yorkshire Terrier.

I was a terrifying rat hunter in English mines.

Today they think I can't use my legs and they always hold me in their arms.

-I'm a Labrador Retriever.

My vision of happiness is a dive into a pond to bring back the duck he shot to my master.

Today you forget I'm a walking, running, swimming dog; as a result I'm fat, made to stay indoors, and to babysit.

-I am a Jack Russell.

I can take on a fox, a mean badger, and a rat bigger than me in his den.

Today I get scolded for my character and high energy, and forced to turn into a quiet living room dog.

-I am a Siberian Husky.

Experienced the great, wide open spaces of Northern Europe, where I could drag sleds for long distances at impressive speeds.

Today I only have the walls of the house or small garden as a horizon, and the holes I dig in the ground just to release energy and frustration, trying to stay sane.

-I am a Border Collie

I was made to work hours a day in partnershipwith my master, and I am an unmistakable artist of working with the herd.

Today they are mad at me because, for lack of sheep, I try to check bikes, cars, children in the house and everything in motion.

I am ...

I am a 21st century dog.

I'm pretty, I'm alert, I'm obedient...but I'm also an individual who, from centuries of breeding, needs to express my instincts, and I am *not* suited for the sedentary life you'd want me to lead.

Spending eight hours a day alone in the house or in the yard - with no work and no one to play or run with. Seeing you for a short time in the evening when you get home and only getting a short walk will make me deeply unhappy.

I'll express it by barking all day, turning your yard into a minefield, doing my needs indoors, being unmanageable the rare times I'll find myself outside and sometimes spending my days frustrated, unfulfilled, lonely and depressed.

You may think that I should be happy to be able to enjoy all this comfort while you go to work, but actually I’ll be exhausted and frustrated. This is absolutely NOT what I'm meant to do or what I need to be doing.

If you love me, if you've always dreamed of me, if my beautiful blue eyes or my athletic look make you want me, but you can't give me a real dog's life, a life that's really worth living according to my breed, and if you can't offer me the job that my genes are asking, DO NOT buy or adopt me!

If you like the way I look but aren't willing to accept my temperament, gifts and traits derived from long genetic selection, and you think you can change them with only your good will, then DO NOT BUY OR ADOPT ME.

I’m a dog from the 21st century, yes, but deep inside me, the one who fought, the one who hunted, the one who pulled sleds, the one who guided and protected a herd still lives within.

So think carefully before you choose your dog.

With the start of storm season upon us we figured it was a good time to refresh everyone on our emergency contingency plans when it comes to dangerous or poor weather here at camp. As you all know we don't shut down for a little snow or rain. So these plans are not referring to traditional "inclement" weather.

Rain storms : any rain moderate to heavy we keep potty breaks and play sessions short and sweet. We do not go outside with active thunderstorms or lightning and will wait till that has passed before resuming potty & play.

Tornado warning : All staff & dogs go inside bunkhouses and kennels and remain indoors till the threat has cleared. Handoff is suspended for the safety of our staff till the threat has cleared. No-Contact drop-off / pickup may be utilized at our discretion with prior communication.

Brushfires : we monitor the risk level and whether evacuation is needed. If an evacuation is called for all dogs will be secured in kennels in our vans and the primary contact will be notified via app.

Unforseen emergency : we will directly communicate with the primary contact via the app with updates and what measures we will be taking.

We live in precarious times with ever changing threat levels due to the global climate emergency. Please remember to update your account with both a primary and secondary contact (the secondary contact should be different than the primary) to facilitate smooth communication in the event of an emergency. While we can't predict the future we will always do our best to keep you informed and prepared for the unknown.

What sets Dirt Road Dogs apart from all the other dog care options out there?

πŸŒ„ Size : we have the largest active use space in the whole metro OKC. Located on 9 acres we have two multi-acre play areas designed to mimic our dogs' innate canine instincts of running, digging, swimming and getting those endorphins up in a safe dog-friendly environment.
πŸ«‚ Behavior : we are selective of who comes to camp. We utilize an active training philosophy here, dogs are thoroughly vetted through our team to ensure they are behaviorally safe to be put into a mixed playgroup. Dogs that don't vibe with others are kept by themselves so they aren't stressed and our play sessions are able to continue without fear of incidents. We are incredibly proud of our low incident rates here at Dirt Road Dogs.
🐾 Play : our dogs average a collective of 4-6 hours of playtime each and every day. Rain or shine. We are outside hiking, running, digging and swimming no matter what.
😴 Sleep : your dog will nap! We promote both active play & deep rest. Both are crucial for helping our dog not only avoid being grouchy and overtired during playgroup but teaching them to turn their brain off. A dog that is running and playing and "on" all day isn't learning how to rest and recharge. All dogs have breaks between playgroups and a full hour of nap time during staff lunch.
πŸ’ͺ🏼 Training : we run active training days, enrichment days as well as reinforce engagement, recall and name recognition in every single playgroup. We aren't here to just babysit, we will help you keep your dogs' training in place and keep them on the path towards whatever goal you have for them.

Not your average dog care for not your average dogs.
