Preventive Veterinary Care
This is a proactive approach to veterinary care. It is aimed at maintaining our pets health and preventing common diseases some of which can eventually turn out to be more serious.
Some of the common preventive measures carried out during routine exams include...
π Vaccinations - This helps to protect against infectious diseases like Rabies, Parvovirus, Lyme and Leptospirosis
πͺ± Parasite control - The most common parasites include Fleas, Ticks, heart worm and intestinal parasites.
π½οΈ Nutrition and weight management - Just like in humans, feeding our pets high quality food in the right proportion helps them maintain ideal weight and body condition which helps to elongate their life.
π©» Regular screening/diagnostics - This helps to detect poor body condition or certain disease conditions affecting the various /specific parts of the body. This may include blood work, radiographs or ultrasound
π©ΉSpaying/Neuter - This helps to reduce certain diseases, cancers and behavioral problems.
π¦·Dental care - "The mouth is the window to the body" - This means that oral health can reflect the overall health of our pet. Oral issues like gum disease can be an indicator of systemic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, etc. Oral infections can also travel to other parts of the body, causing inflammation and other complications.
These measures may appear initially to be unnecessary and costly, but they help to detect problems early, save the cost of emergency care, prevent zoonotic diseases ( Diseases that can be transferred from pets to humans) and improve the pets quality of life and longevity.
