🐾❤️ Meet the Mutt Strutters. ❤️🐾

Every morning at 9:00 AM, you'll find a group of dedicated volunteers walking dogs at Pitt County Animal Services. Rain or shine, they're here helping shelter dogs stretch their legs, burn off energy, practice their leash skills, and enjoy time outside of their kennels.

At the heart of it all is Melanie.

For years, Melanie has devoted countless hours to the dogs at our shelter. She coordinates the Mutt Strutters program, welcomes new volunteers, helps dogs build confidence on leash, and makes sure our dogs get the exercise and enrichment they need.

Many of the dogs who come through our doors have felt the impact of Melanie's kindness and dedication. Whether she's walking dogs herself, mentoring volunteers, or advocating for the animals in our care, she has become an important part of their journey.

The Mutt Strutters have helped thousands of shelter dogs over the years, and that wouldn't be possible without Melanie and the volunteers who show up day after day to make a difference.

Thank you, Melanie, for everything you do for the animals of Pitt County Animal Services. ❤️🐾

💦🐸 Froggie's Happy Place. 🐸💦

Some dogs dream about fancy toys.

Some dogs dream about treats.

Froggie dreams about kiddie pools.

Looking at these photos, it's pretty clear she's found her happy place.

At just 7 months old, Froggie has already mastered the art of enjoying the simple things in life. A little sunshine, a little grass to roll around in, some water to splash in, and she's convinced the day couldn't get any better.

Volunteers are always surprised when they learn how old she is. Instead of the nonstop chaos people expect from a puppy, Froggie is sweet, easygoing, and happy to take the world as it comes. She walks beautifully on leash, loves meeting new people, and has a calmness about her that makes her a joy to spend time with.

Mostly, though, Froggie just seems happy.

And we think that happiness is pretty hard to resist.

More than 12 years ago, Allie left Pitt County Animal Services and started the next chapter of her life with Barbara and Nick.

What followed was more than a decade of love, adventures, comfort, and devotion. From the moment she was adopted, Allie was clearly cherished, and anyone who knew her could see just how much she meant to her family.

Stories like Allie's are a reminder of why adoption matters. The animals who leave our shelter don't just find homes—they become family. They become part of holiday traditions, road trips, quiet evenings on the couch, and countless everyday moments that end up meaning everything.

Allie was one of the lucky ones. She found a family who loved her deeply, and in return she gave them years of loyalty, companionship, and unconditional love.

While we are saddened by her passing, we are grateful for the wonderful life she lived and the memories she leaves behind.

Thank you, Barbara and Nick, for giving Allie the life every shelter animal deserves.

A huge thank you to Law Firm Injury Lawyers for inviting us to be part of Rescue in the Park last weekend.
One of the best parts of events like these is getting to learn more about our dogs.

Froggie discovered a fan and quickly decided it was the greatest invention of all time.

Lando happily accepted every treat offered to him and fully embraced being spoiled for the afternoon.

Bard met all kinds of new people and posed for photos at the photo booth like he had done it his entire life.

And perhaps the biggest news of the day came from Olive. During the event, she had the chance to meet Humane Society of Eastern Carolina, and we're excited to share that she's since been pulled into rescue and is headed toward the next chapter of her journey.

While not every dog left the event with a new home, every one of them got a chance to get out of the shelter, meet new people, and show everyone exactly who they are.

Thank you again to Ricci's Rescue for hosting such a wonderful event and to everyone who stopped by to meet our pups. 💛🐾

🐱💛 Why adopt a senior cat? These boys would like a moment of your time. 💛🐱

🐾 Thumper — 9 Years Old
🐾 Kunta — 12 Years Old
🐾 Nemo — 12 Years Old • FIV+

Thanks to generous supporters, all three of these boys have partially sponsored adoption fees in hopes of helping them find homes.

While kittens often steal the spotlight, senior cats have a lot to offer. They know who they are, what they like, and they're often content to spend their days enjoying the simple things in life—a comfortable bed, a sunny window, and a person to call their own.

Nemo's FIV status doesn't stop him from living a happy life, and all three of these gentlemen are hoping someone will give them a chance.

Their supporters have already stepped up to help them get noticed.

Now they just need someone to choose them. 💛🐾
