Happy Forever Friend Friday! 🐾💕

Today, we have a face some of you may recognize... it’s none other than Miss Juliet! 🥹🐶

A true HSEC sweetheart and renowned Rescue Recess champion, Juliet has quite the classic adoption story: she went from foster pup to foster fail! ❤️ And honestly, we couldn’t be happier for her!

Here’s what her new mom had to say:

“Juliet has been doing amazing! She has met so many family members, roommates, and even gained two dog brothers in Pennsylvania, my hometown. She spent the majority of the summer chasing my other dog, Pilot, around outside. She loves big kisses and cuddles and is always following me around looking for food to steal from my plate.

Overall, Juliet has improved with her training so much over the past few months. She loves making friends with all dogs that pass or come her way and falls in love with just about anyone who gives her a treat or scratches her head. She is a pleasure to have cuddled up next to me every night and is genuinely the best dog I could have ever imagined.

I’m so grateful that the Humane Society brought her to me, and I can’t wait for a lifetime of more zoomies, cuddles, tricks, and laughs with her!” ❤️

Juliet, we are so incredibly happy to see you thriving with your forever family! 🥹💕 From Rescue Recess superstar to professional cuddle buddy and snack thief, it sounds like you’ve settled into forever life perfectly. 🐾✨

🐾 Happy Staff Sunday! 🐾

This week we’re introducing our Volunteer Coordinator, Mackenzie! If you’ve been around HSEC at any point in the last four years, chances are you’ve run into Mac! Volunteers, fosters, events, social media, adoptions you name it, Mac has probably had a hand in it. She has been a little bit of everywhere here at HSEC, but one thing has always stayed the same: her love for animal rescue!

If you’ve met Mac, you know that if anyone is going to crack a joke, make light of a bad situation, or find a way to make people smile, it’s her. She brings so much heart, humor, and light to HSEC, and somehow always manages to make even the busiest, craziest days a little brighter!

When asked what her favorite part of her job is, Mac said this:

“My favorite part of this job is getting the chance to love every animal that walks through these doors. Getting to open my home to every foster, watching a scared and nervous dog slowly find their confidence and learn how to be a dog, or seeing an undersocialized kitten learn that people can be safe and that maybe love isn’t so scary (even if I may or may not force them to accept it 😂).

Every part of it is a privilege. I feel so lucky to get to love these animals, even when loving them means eventually having to say goodbye. To love an animal so much that you cry seeing them finally get the family they deserve is something I will never take for granted; it means they mattered, and getting to be a small part of that journey is something I wouldn’t trade for anything. There really isn’t anything better.”

This month, Mac will be celebrating 4 years with HSEC! 🎉 She’s excited to continue expanding our volunteer and foster opportunities, finding new and fun ways to partner with our community, and, of course, continuing to be a passionate and dedicated voice for animal welfare! 🐾

Outside of HSEC, Mac has 2 dogs and 2 cats, 3 of whom were adopted from HSEC: Lobo, her Husky; Honor, her Shepherd mix; and Sour Cream, her cat! She has welcomed countless foster dogs and cats into her home and continues to open her door to animals in need. 🐶🐱

Thank you so much to everyone who came out to our Open House last week! We had a wonderful afternoon filled with wagging tails, good food, happy faces, and successful adoptions! 🐶🐱❤️

We loved having our friends with The Veterinary Outpatient join us to share information about affordable, low-cost veterinary care, and the delicious Jamerican Hot Dogs food truck kept everyone fueled throughout the afternoon! 🍴

Finally, we want to give a HUGE thank you to all of our amazing staff and volunteers for spending your day talking about HSEC and all of our wonderful animals. We couldn’t have done it without you!

And a special shoutout to our lovely volunteer Mackenzie for capturing the day so beautifully with these wonderful photos! 📸💕

We loved opening our doors and our hearts to our community and cannot wait to do it again soon! 🐾❤️

🐾 Happy Furbaby Friday! 🐾

This week we have a classic happily-ever-after that starts with a beach photo walking into the sunset and ends with many, many more playdates to come! 🌅🐶

Alice was adopted by a family who already had a pup that we can only describe as her actual twin. Since then, she has been on adventure after adventure with her new brother, mom, and dad. She’s been meeting new friends and family, going to daycare, hitting the beach, and even learning new tricks!

(And we are still hoping those Harry Potter commands stayed in rotation because, frankly, that is a level of training we fully support. 🪄🐕😂)

Here’s what her new mom had to say about their first month together:

"I wanted to provide an update on Alice's (formerly Betsy) first month with us.

It has been a wonderful month, and she has made great progress with both her nutrition and behavior. Alice has already met her cousin Luke in Raleigh, NC, and her cousin Cooper in Maryland. She also met her new best friend, a beagle named Mabel.

Alice recently started daycare, and the staff mentioned she absolutely loves the pool and playing with balls. She also began training classes two weeks ago and has received straight A's in all her sessions. This past Sunday, she went to the beach for the first time and enjoyed watermelon as a snack.

She has adapted beautifully to her new home and siblings. We cannot wait to see where this adventure takes us.

Thank you all so much for everything you do to match these pups with their homes."

Updates like this really show us what we work for every day. ❤️

Every dog deserves a home where they are loved, spoiled, included in all the adventures, and maybe even given some watermelon at the beach. 🍉 We couldn’t be happier that we got to be a part of Alice’s journey!

Congratulations to that sweet girl! Everyone at HSEC will forever be your biggest fan. You truly hit the jackpot! 🐾💕

Meet Tic Tac!

This adorable 3-year-old Pittie mix is quite possibly the happiest dog you’ll ever meet! Tic Tac is the definition of excited when she sees a new person. She’ll bounce around, roll right over, and proudly show you her belly because, of course, belly rubs are a MUST! 😂💕

But what’s her favorite activity of all? POOL TIME! 💦🐾 Tic Tac absolutely loves splashing around in our pools and playing in the sprinklers!

Tic Tac is dog and cat friendly, does well in a crate, and is house trained! She’s the whole package and would make the cutest addition to any home. 🏡💗
