They say April showers bring May flowers—and we couldn’t think of a better way to kick off this blooming month than by celebrating the beautiful new beginnings of five animals, 2 Dogs, and 3 Cats who found their forever homes this past week! 🌷So grab a snack, tell your dog we said hello, and get ready for some heartwarming adoption stories that are sure to make your day.

First up, meet Charlie! This adorable three-year-old orange and white cat has a chunky side that’s only matched by the enormous amount of love she had to give. Whether she was sprawled out like royalty on her bed or soaking up the good life in foster care, Charlie knew how to live in style. Her favorite pastimes? Enjoying leisurely head scratches from staff and, naturally, being first in line for breakfast. 🍽️Congratulations to Charlie and her lucky new family—we know she’s already claimed the comfiest spot in the house! 🧡🐾

Next up is Frosty—an HSEC staff favorite! This beautiful snowy-white senior girl has been in our care for quite some time, moving from foster home to foster home and even serving as our part-time receptionist, greeting guests as they walked in! ❄️Frosty was originally adopted once before but unfortunately found herself back in our care. Despite her affectionate, gentle nature, she was often overlooked. All she ever wanted was a warm lap to curl up on for a nap and a high perch to people-watch from her favorite cat tree. So when her adopter came looking for the perfect new companion, we knew just the girl for the job. Frosty finally found the forever family she’s always deserved. Congratulations to Frosty and her new forever home—we’re so excited to see you thrive! 🐱💙

Pineapple is bringing a burst of energy to our adoption lineup! This funky little pup, just three months old, might be one of the most adorable dogs we have ever seen! A Chihuahua mix with a big personality, Pineapple stole hearts the moment he arrived. 🍍💫Whether he was zipping around his foster home with his doggy siblings or trying (and failing) to convince the cats to join in the fun, this curious little guy was always on the go. It was nearly impossible not to smile when Pineapple was in the room. With a face like his and a spirit to match, it’s no surprise he was quickly scooped up into a loving home. Congrats, Pineapple—your forever adventure begins now!

Meet Celt! This adorable 11-month-old retriever mix was the very definition of puppy love. Always ready to snuggle up to anyone who gave her a second of attention, Celt lived for long walks on the trail, romps in the yard, and the sheer joy of chasing a tennis ball. So when a young couple came in looking to add a playful pup to their growing family, Celt didn’t hesitate—she turned on the charm and sealed the deal. With her sweet heart and bouncy energy, it was love at first tail wag. Congratulations to Celt and her new parents—we know your days will be filled with laughter, fetch, and so much love! 🐶🎾💕

Last but certainly not least—Seraphina! This sweet girl has an adoption story that proves one timeless truth: persistence pays off. 💫Seraphina had quietly captured the heart of one of our volunteers—someone who visited often and couldn’t help but be drawn to her charm. Over time, she watched Seraphina blossom in our care, and it became clear to everyone (staff included!) that there was something special between the two. She'd often chat with staff about how badly she wanted to take Seraphina home… and behind the scenes, that’s exactly what she was working on. As it turns out, she wasn’t the only one plotting. After hearing about Seraphina nearly every day, her partner decided to turn this dream into reality—applying to adopt Seraphina as a surprise. So when the volunteer came in one afternoon and saw Seraphina’s space empty, she didn’t have to be sad for long. A few hours later, she walked through her own front door and discovered that Seraphina was adopted… by her, all along. 🐾💕Congratulations to Seraphina and her forever person—we absolutely love stories like this one.

That’s all for this week’s adoption update! We can’t wait to share who follows in next week’s update. 🐾✨Let’s give one last congratulations to all the families who grew by one this week, and to the five amazing animals who now have the second chance they deserve! A huge thank you to all of our volunteers, fosters, and supporters—your dedication and love make these success stories possible. We hope your May is off to as good a start as ours!

Indica recently got to dip her toes in the sand and visit the beach with a volunteer this weekend and LOVED IT! Here is what her new best friend had to say about their sleepover together!

“Oh my gosh Indica, where do I begin? I am absolutely obsessed!! We went on an overnight trip to the Outer Banks and she was the perfect companion. Her puppy side shows her love for toys and her ability to keep up on long walks, but you would otherwise never guess how young she is based on how calm and gentle she interacts with people! She did fantastic in the car on our long drive and had no accidents the whole time. She also demonstrates excellent recall on the long leash. Really the only challenge I had with Indica was having to say goodbye after our trip together! “

We love it when our dogs get to go on such fun adventures with our amazing volunteers!!

Think Indica could be a good fit for your family? Head over to hsecarolina.org to apply today!

Amanda just got back from her week-long vacation in Foster, and they had nothing but glowing things to say about her!

"This past week I had the pleasure of fostering Amanda. She is the sweetest little girl ever. Her favorite thing ever is cuddling up on the couch or your lap and watching a movie. She did great with house training and had no accidents in the house or in her crate! She is super smart and picks up on tricks and commands really fast. She loves everyone she meets including dogs and kids and loves going on car rides more than anything! Everyone she met said she was the most well behaved puppy even with her crazy playful energy and I couldn't agree more."

Think Amanda might be a good fit for your home? Head over to hsecarolina.org to apply to meet her today!

Miss Cheryl is thriving in foster and we are thrilled to show you what her foster mom has to say about having her in the home!

“Where do I start with little miss Cheryl? She is SUCH a cuddle bug, She loves snuggling up to you on the couch and of course, covering you in lots of kisses! She loves to be picked up and held onto. We have a 2-year-old pup at home who she loves to play with, he is about 80 lbs so she doesn’t mind playing with dogs much larger than her. She does great going in her crate during the day while we are gone and has made great progress with her house training. We even started teaching her to ring a bell when she needs to go outside! We have introduced her to kids and she loves them! She does well on a leash but is still working on some of her manners. She knows how to sit, and we are also working on shake, come, leave it, drop it, and stay. Whoever is Lucky enough to adopt Cheryl is guaranteed to have a built-in best friend!“
