🐱 REMINDER - National Take Your Cat to the Vet Day is today, August 22nd! 🩺

A little reminder for your kittie’s wellness. It’s a chance for you to catch things early, ask questions and keep them healthy for years to come.

Our feline friends need regular care, especially as they age. Make sure to book that visit, and maybe give them a treat when they get home.

We’ve got some amazing clinics in the greater Grand Rapids area - CSNIP , Fur Wellness Animal Clinic, Feline Wellness Center, & many more!

*CLIENTS: Please stay in your vehicle upon arrival & add yourself to the waitlist on our website. Follow the prompts carefully as they may have changed.

‼️We are asking folks to park on the street or in the empty lot across the street until you receive the text that it is your turn to come up to the building & pick up your items. We will only call you up when we have a parking spot available. You may use that time to also quickly look through our little free store but we will not be able to page the next family until you’re done so please only take what you need. ‼️

🔍 Today is so if you haven’t already, make sure that the information on your pet’s microchip (ID tags, as well) is up to date! 🔍

❔What if you don’t know my pet’s microchip number/company? You can bring them to any vet or shelter to have them scanned then look up the number on www.petmicrochiplookup.org & find the company’s contact info to update your information with!

❔What if your pet isn’t microchipped? Most animal shelters & vet clinics offer microchipping as a service. Some other local animal welfare organizations like humane societies, rescues, & pet pantries (😉) may also offer them. 👉Swipe for info on our upcoming FREE chip clinic👈

❔What do microchips do/how do they work? They are the size of a grain of rice & quickly/easily implanted, similarly to a vaccine, between your pet’s shoulder blades. They are not tracking devices. If your pet becomes lost & someone brings them to a shelter or vet, they will be able to contact you! Collar ID tags are great but sometimes collars slip off or they break off.

❔What if your pet is chipped & it is already up to date but you want to celebrate this pawsome national holiday?? Donate $5 to sponsor a chip. Volunteer for a chip clinic. Share posts about low cost chip clinics.

🐈‍⬛Can you help us fill our shelves before this weekend’s distribution?? Distribution days have only been getting busier & we get new client forms daily with no sign of that trend slowing down!🐈

Our biggest needs currently are:
🐾Canned 🐱 food!!!
🐾Dry 🐱 food
🐾XL 🐶 harnesses & leashes
🐾🐱& 🐶 flea/tick prevention

We fill our shelves 2 hours before distribution & by the end, they’re often close to empty or bare! Our volunteers pick up donations in the weeks between distribution days, we receive items off of our wishlists, we purchase items that were low on, & we receive many emails/messages from folks who are in need of assistance or who are hoping to help.

Our Monthly Pet Food Pantry is happening TOMRROW from 3–6PM at 100 North Aniline in Holland!

If you're experiencing a tough time and need a little help feeding your furry friends, we're here for you. ❤️ This program is designed to keep pets in loving homes by offering temporary, supplemental support to families in need.

A few quick reminders to keep things running smoothly:

⏰ No need to arrive hours early — let’s be good neighbors to the businesses around us.
🐾 This is a temporary, share-the-love kind of program, so we can help as many families as possible.

🐶 Today is the day to go out of your way to make your doggo feel extra special. Extra treats? Extra belly rubs? Extra long nap in the hooman bed? A pup cup? YES PLEASE. 🐶

Dogs are there for us every single day, and they deserve a celebration. Cat people, don’t worry - more cat celebrations are around the corner... but today, let’s make it special for our doggos! 🦴🐕🐩🦮🐕‍🦺🐾

We are right there with GRPBA - spay/neuter is a MUST & also a *requirement* to receive assistance from us. We have resources to help get this life saving surgery done, there is NO reason not to. ✂️

We want to share a reminder about our policies for GRPBA Outreach programs and assistance.

We've received several emails in the past week from individuals who would like pet food and supply assistance even pet vaccines however their pets are intact. They are also eligible for our upcoming free Spay and Neuter Cinic date with Bissell Pet Foundations Fix the Future. We have offered spots to these families for their pets and sadly they have declined indicating they do not want their pets spayed and neutered. In one situation there was four puppies who are 10 weeks old now. The individual who contacted us for pet food indicated they did not want the puppies fixed in case they "let one go" 😔

This is gut wrenching and frustrating for us, it goes against everything we are trying so hard to work for in the community. We are here to provide assistance we want to help keep pets with their families but we also want to stop the influx of animals entering our overcrowded animal shelters. We do that by spaying and neutering animals. This means No breeding whether intentional or unintentional.

GRPBA Spay/Neuter Policy:

Spay and neuter is required for all programs and assistance we provide, including pet food, supplies, canine training, vaccines, emergency veterinary assistance, pet rehoming assistance, transportation, and other services.

If your pets are not currently spayed or neutered, you may still apply for initial assistance to discuss your situation with a volunteer and receive information about free spay/neuter opportunities through our Bissell Pet Foundation Fix the Future dates. We want to work with families who have intact pets and help them access these valuable free spaying and neutering services. These conversations allow us to provide resources and assistance. We will help you get your pets spayed and neutered at no cost as long as you agree to the procedure.

Ongoing assistance requires completion of spay/neuter procedures.

We Cannot Provide Assistance To:
• Breeders
• Individuals who intend to stud or breed their pets
• Individuals fostering for local rescue organizations
• Individuals doing private rescue independently
• Individuals receiving pet food assistance from another organization or source

📣Reminder: All pets must be spayed or neutered to continue receiving assistance through our programs. We're here to help you access free spay/neuter services to meet this requirement.

If your pet is in need of some vaccines, now is your chance! Just in time for National Pet Immunization Month!

Join us TOMORROW at Harbor Humane Society for our Low-Cost Pet Vaccine Clinic and help protect your pets from preventable diseases.

When: Thursday, August 7th from 12PM-2PM
Where: Harbor Humane Society, 14345 Bagley St, West Olive
**NOTE: This is a drive-thru service – Follow the cones and stay to the right. Dogs must be leashed and cats must be in a carrier! Payment (cash or card) is due at the time of service.
What: Affordable, accessible pet vaccines and preventatives for dogs and cats
