Thank you Fred and Karin for the update on Dolly, we’re happy to hear she’s doing well 💗

It has been a year since Dolly (fka Cece) graced our lives . I am happy to report that she has been a joy to be with , very eager to please and has bonded with both Karin and I and with our other dog Quinn. (You might recall we had a border collie , Duncan; he passed away quietly last month at home at 14 happy years of age).

She is quite mischievous and playful. We think she might be part border collie due to her small stature (42 pounds) and tendencies . She also loves the water and even in colder weather will splash on the top steps of our swimming pool when given the chance .

Thank you for providing the opportunity to adopt Dolly.

For those of you that have seen this post rest assured this little one is now safe with rescue. There are a couple more days of “stray hold” left but County allowed us to take her out of the shelter environment while that expires. If the owner does not come forward this pup will be officially with rescue and we will take care of whatever she needs 💗🐾

Right now we know she’s very small, a senior, and appears to be deaf.

Yesterday, Cherry who was a recent rescue from our Las Vegas supporter was placed in a foster to adopt home. Shelly, her original foster mom, had actively marketed Cherry with retriever rescues and thereby successfully identified a good potential adoption lead for Cherry with a retriever fan. Cherry was transported to Holbrook where she met her new foster parents who then took her to their Albuquerque home. Things are going very well and we expect this to be a great fit 🐾💚

Nan and David - our sincere condolences on the loss of Ronnie 💛🐾

In 2014 there was a seizure of over 100 collies in Tomball, TX. I wonder how many are left? There can't be that many. Ronnie was 14 when he passed away in his sleep tonight. Ronnie came to us pretty much feral and very much a barker. When I picked him up in Alamogordo, he cried all the way to Roswell, nonstop. The first few days were spent with him on a leash tied to me just to keep him from crying and barking. He wouldn't bark if someone was with him. Eventually, he learned to temper his barking and was a great watch dog. I disagree that the garbage truck needed to be alerted on but Ronnie felt it was part of the job. He quickly learned his family role and was never afraid of new things. His defense mechanism was to stay out of arms' length but he was never out of sight. He craved being around the action. Ronnie was mischievous, curious and very much needed companionship from his family. He was great with the fosters by just being laid back and chill. Ronnie was like a shadow, always around. Never an alpha, always a follower but he could get pushy when he wanted undivided attention. For a dog that came to us in such poor condition in 2014, he has thrived and never let his first years interfere with the last eleven. David and I will definitely miss our ancient, wise old guy.

** Help Needed ~ Networking or Adopting **

Last Friday we were notified that one of our long-term Vegas supporters was hospitalized due to ongoing medical issues. At the time of her hospitalization, Animal Control took in her six dogs which included two of our shelties. The dogs were put on 10 day holds at the contracted shelter. We ascertained the status of all dogs and identified the process to retrieve our shelties.

What to do about the other dogs was uncertain - they were not shelties or collies. However, given the long-time service of our hospitalized supporter, an undetermined hospital stay, and the now certain belief that she would not be in a position to care for the dogs in the future, we could not abandon her other dogs in that shelter.

We quickly mobilized over multiple days to get all dogs removed from the shelter. On Tuesday, one of the shelties was removed and placed in foster to adopt status with one of our Vegas applicants. On Wednesday, the five remaining dogs, including our sheltie were removed from the shelter and transported to Phoenix. We were fortunate to have identified fosters for those dogs for at least an initial temporary period. We placed the other sheltie in a foster to adopt status with a local Phoenix applicant and hopefully that will work out. For the other dogs, which we are just now getting to know, we will be getting them into the vet and getting behavioral assessments. Current descriptions and pictures of these dogs follow. They are obviously used to a multidog household.

We could use your help in networking these dogs as they are not our usual breed(s) If you, or anyone you know, would be interested in helping or adopting one of these dogs please let us know. Their descriptions are with their pictures. Thank you 🐾 💛

WE ARE OPEN! 🍿🍿🍿

Popcorn would make a great holiday stocking stuffer, or a quick snack on a movie night, and there so many flavors to choose from! SWCSR receives 50% of the popcorn sales which will sure help since we had a major intake of collies this year - who all required vet care of some type.

Your support is greatly appreciated ~ thank you for taking a look!
