Jax
Monroeville, NJ

Meet the bestest boy, Jax!
Jax is a 2 yr old neutered male Australian Cattle Dog (blue heeler) who is just a super sweet love bug! Not only is he beautiful with his light colored mottled coat and big fluffy “raccoon” tail but he has been nothing but a pleasure to foster. If you want a young dog without the puppy stage look no further!
Jax is great with people, kids and dogs. Even with my very bossy female dogs. He is on the calmer side for a cattle dog, well behaved and has basic manners. House broken and crate trained this guy has not had one accident and puts his own self away in the crate. He sleeps all through the night in a crate next to my bed.
Jax knows sit and walks on leash. He takes treats nicely and waits his turn when given treats with my other dogs. He also shares attention quite well with the other dogs. Rides nicely in the car. And behaves when out and about. He has also started to learn to swim and has done wonderful on our boat! No aggression of any kind seen so far.
Outside Jax will need a secure fenced in yard or leash walked. We have been working on recall but needs some improvement. He has met our cat and after a few stern “leave its” he is doing ok but I still don’t trust him 100 percent.
No horses
No free ranged chickens
No livestock
And probably no small animals. I feel like if it runs he will probably chase.
Jax is up to date on vaccines and preventatives. He is neutered and microchipped.
Located in Monroeville, NJ

Applications are to be filled out for Jax at www.acdra.org/adoption-application
and any questions can be emailed to [email protected]

Thanks for considering adoption!!!

Rocco
Bergen, NY

Rocco is a sweet boy who loves being the center of attention! He loves to snuggle, and if you let him on the couch or in bed with you, he will automatically be your best friend. He loves to play tug of war with toys and rip their squeakers and fluff out. He also enjoys running around outside chasing the birds in the sky, squirrels up the trees, or bunnies under the fence. He has a high prey drive and would do best in a home with no small pets. He’s lived with another dog, but it’s the only dog he’s gotten along with. Would suggest being the only pet in the home, but could try a meet and greet. He’s approximately 7-8 years old, and has no health issues.

Rocco is reactive when he’s being held back on leash and would thrive with someone who can work with him. He’s responded well to training in the past and would thrive with someone who can offer some structure/routine. He is highly food driven and will do just about anything for treats.

We suggest a home with no small children as he doesn’t seem to care for them, or if they get attention over him.

Rocco is truly a good and loving boy and he would make a great best friend to anyone in need of one! He is loyal and will always have your back. He will love you unconditionally.

Rocco is neutered and up to date on vaccines. He is currently located in Bergen, NY. For more information, please contact [email protected].

Kansas
Bangor, ME

Kansas (aka Chubbs) is a most handsome neutered male cattle dog looking to find his forever home. His estimated age is around 2. He is up to date on veterinary care and preventatives. He is house trained- having never had an accident in my care. He is not a fan of crates and does well being left loose confined to a room instead. If given the opportunity he will counter surf or check out the trash cans, typical cattle dog behavior, so you must be smarter than he is.

He was a stray so we do not have a background on this dog but he is strong and will require an adopter with prior herding breed experience. He is opinionated and not afraid to let his opinion be known. For that reason I do not think he will do well in a home with children. He gets along very well with my resident female cattle dog but has shown reactivity in public around strange dogs, joggers, and bikes. Continued training will be necessary to help him be his best self. He does enjoy outings but is not a great traveler. He has a great deal of anxiety in the car when it is moving, so that can be a consideration if you like to travel a lot with your dog.

His ideal home would have a fenced in area where he can run and chase a ball. He has a low food drive, and a low-moderate toy drive. He’s non destructive of household items and doesn’t destroy stuffed toys. He does enjoy a good yak chew, bully stick, or benebone.

He is a lower energy requirement type and does not need hours of stimulation to be livable. He just needs an adopter that will be firm and fair with him. Kansas would prefer to meet his potential family in person and not travel long distance.

If you are interested in adopting Kansas or have any questions please feel free to email his foster mom at [email protected]

Landfill Larry
Adamstown, MD

Larry is a playful 2-year-old ACD mix who weighs 36 pounds.

Despite a rough start—he was
abandoned at a landfill in rural Kentucky—this resilient pup has blossomed in foster care. Kind
volunteers initially built temporary shelter for Larry until ACDRA could arrange a proper foster home.

Life on the Farm

Larry has truly come alive in his foster home on a farm, where he loves running and playing with
his foster siblings. He's sweet, outgoing, and affectionate with adults, though he hasn't been
around children yet. His favorite activities include daily pack hikes, chewing bones, and
swimming in the farm pond.

At the end of each adventure-filled day, Larry's favorite spot is
snuggled up with his foster dad on the sofa, followed by a peaceful night's sleep beside him.

Larry is mostly house-trained and does well in his crate. He's mastered the doggie door and
walks nicely on leash. He is highly food motivated and takes correction and redirection well,
making basic training easily within reach.

Ideal Home

Larry will thrive with a confident, cattle dog-experienced owner who can provide clear
boundaries, consistent daily training, and plenty of exercise. True to his cattle dog nature, he will try to nip your heels and loves chasing anything that moves—especially water from the hose!

However, his chase instincts extend to cars, making a securely fenced yard essential for his
safety.

Areas for Continued Work

While Larry hasn't shown resource guarding with his foster dad, he does need ongoing work on treat-related aggression with other dogs. With patience and consistent training, this behavior can be managed.

Larry is neutered, microchipped, and current on all vaccinations and preventatives. He's ready to
find his forever family!

Larry is being fostered in Adamstown, MD. Contact his foster dad: [email protected] or fill out an application at https://www.acdra.org/adoption-application.

Rosie- F
Roanoke, VA

We think Rosie is a blue heeler/german shepherd mix based on her character traits and looks. She was pulled from a shelter in Bedford County VA where she was brought in as a stray, so we don’t know anything about her history. Rosie is slow to warm up to people and other dogs but she’s is a complete love bug once she is won over. She has a high prey drive and may chase squirrel or deer. Rosie is a medium energy dog. While she is happy to lay around and play with her toys, I wouldn’t recommend her with smaller children, as sometimes she can be a bit rough. My child is a very dog savvy 5 year old and they do well together. Rosie is crate and potty trained. She walks well on a leash.

Rosie is approx 2 years old, 50 lbs, UTD on vaccines, microchipped, and on preventatives. She has not been cat tested, but I don’t think she would do well with them just judging by her prey drive. She does well with other dogs that we’ve met on walks and I think slow introductions would be needed for resident dogs. My male Weimaraner does not like Rosie and has not adjusted to having her here, but it’s not for lack of her trying to be his friend.

For questions please email her foster at: [email protected]
And applications can be filled out at acdra.org

Lola
Colonial Beach, VA

Meet Lola – Queen of Sticks and Cuddles!

Say hello to Lola, an 8-year-old cattle dog with a big personality and an even bigger love for… sticks! Yep, sticks. Big ones, little ones, crooked ones—Lola is a certified stick connoisseur and proud of it. Whether she’s proudly carrying one on a walk or playfully tossing it around the yard, Lola turns every stick into an adventure.

But don’t let her stick obsession fool you—she knows there is more to life than playtime! She’s incredibly loyal, smart, and full of love. She’s past the wild puppy phase and has a little bit of extra weight to lose, but still has that spark of energy that keeps life fun. True to her breed, Lola’s intelligent and thrives with routine, a bit of structure, and plenty of playtime.

She’s happiest when she’s outdoors sniffing around, finding her perfect stick, and then coming inside to crash by your side. She loves her people deeply and would do best in a home where she can be your loyal shadow (and maybe your stick delivery service). She is house trained (she will let you KNOW when she needs to go out!), knows basic commands (sit, shake, down, and more!), and walks relatively well on a leash.

Lola would thrive as an only dog—or with chill canine friends (cats unknown)—she’d be a great match for someone who enjoys walks, yard time, and a loyal companion to share it all with.

If your idea of fun includes a four-legged best friend who doubles as a stick collector and cuddle expert, Lola is your girl.

Come meet Lola—she’s located in Colonial Beach, VA and ready to stick by your side forever. Fill out an application at https://www.acdra.org/adoption-application.

Cowboy
Sunbury, OH

Howdy y’all, I’m Cowboy!

That’s right, Cowboy—the name says it all. I’m a rootin’-tootin’ ball-chasin’, tail-waggin’ good boy lookin’ for my forever home. I'm ‘round 5 years young, weigh in at a sturdy 60 pounds of pure energy, and I come ready for the trail—neutered, up to date on them vaccines, and even got one of them fancy microchips so I don’t go gettin’ lost.

I’m housebroken, crate trained, and smart as a whip. I live for the thrill of the chase—ball that is. You throw it, I’ll bring it back, and we’ll keep doin’ that ‘til the cows come home. Got an empty backyard and a strong throwin’ arm? Well partner, we just might be soulmates.

Lookin’ for an agility buddy? Saddle me up! I thrive when I’ve got a job to do or a toy to chase.

Now here’s the thing—while I do just fine with other pups in a pack, when it comes to settlin’ into a home, I’d much rather have all the toys, treats, and attention to myself. I’m not well-suited for a home with kiddos either—I like my space when I’m chewin’ bones or enjoyin’ my treasures, and I’d do best with grown-ups who understand my breed and respect my boundaries.

Cats and other small critters? Can’t say one way or the other—I haven’t had the pleasure.

I’m currently kickin’ up dust in Sunbury, Ohio, and ready to meet the right partner for the ride of a lifetime.

Great news you all! We have raised enough to cover both deposits and surgery will be scheduled. With any luck both surgeries will be completed before weeks end. We are keeping the fundraiser going as we would like to creep just a bit closer to our goal. For those of you who already donated, THANK YOU SO MUCH!! You are the reason these sweet babies can move on to a better, hopefully pain free life!

Good Morning All!These are always the posts we truly do not like making but as you all know we always don't know what we are jumping into when we commit to a foster dog, but once we commit; we have to do all we can! Sweet Smokey came from a very rural shelter in NY, the dogs in this shelter receive little to no vetting, basic care is all the shelter has the resources to provide. Upon arrival at his foster home, his foster noticed he had a gait that wasn't quite right. It turns out sweet Smokey has a hip injury that will require an FHO at a cost of $3500-$5500 to repair. Smokey is a young, sweet boy who deserves to be pain free and have the ability to run like the wind as any cattle dog should. Fortunately, a clinic near Smokey has had a cancellation and he can get his surgery done as quickly as 9/4 so he can get ready to move to a new family sooner rather than later.

Some of you are already familiar with Sweet Mavis, this girl came to us with a fractured elbow. We knew something was going on with Mavis but it has taken us a minute to figure out what may be the best alternative to help Mavis and it looks like surgical repair is the best option! We did do a raffle to benefit Mavis already, but her care thus far has eaten up most of her fundraiser. The current estimate to get Mavis fixed up and on the road to recovery is $4000.

Combined, this is a huge hit to the rescue and we will find a way, but can really use some help. Even just $1 can make a difference to help these two sweet dogs that humans have not been kind to so far. I know we say it often, but it takes a village to raise and care for our beloved cattle dogs and we have the most amazing village! Sincere gratitude to any of you who can help sponsor Smokey and Mavis' surgeries, post op care and recovery
