Lulu's Locker Rescue

Lulu's Locker Rescue Lulu’s Locker rescues the most overlooked, highly euthanized companion animals - black cats & dogs She rubbed up against me and I was immediately attached.

Lulu’s Locker President, Dawn Isenhart-Copp, had an idea to focus on helping those animals who are consistently the most overlooked and misunderstood: black cats & dogs, FIV cats, and senior/hospice animals. With a love for animals as well as rescue, foster, and TNR experience, she was ready to make it happen. In September 2011, she approached Erin Lamparter and Mike Copp to co-found this unique r

escue. With Erin’s animal shelter and outreach experience, lifetime dedication to animal welfare, and deep appreciation of her black cat family members, she was thrilled to launch this unique initiative. Mike’s experience and involvement with rescuing and caring for shelter animals, as well as being extremely active with TNR, was an invaluable addition to the rescue’s mission. The efforts of Lulu’s Locker also wouldn’t be possible without our incredible and dedicated team of volunteers! Andy Isenhart, Dawn’s son, shares his touching story of animal companionship from which the name and “underdog” concept of Lulu’s Locker Rescue was created:

“When I first met Lulu, I was at a very low point in my life. I was 13 and in 7th grade, and had many friend and bully problems. Plus, being an only child with a single parent, I had to spend a lot of time by myself. Since my mom and I had just moved into our house at the time, we felt we needed a pet and we decided on a cat. Within days of this decision, we went to our local cat and dog shelter to search for our new family addition. Within literally one minute of being in the shelter, I saw her. She was in a small cage packed in with her brothers and sisters. All of the other kittens were on top of her and playing rough and all I could see was her face looking out. I don’t know how she caught my eye considering she was so hidden but she did. Her name was Thursday at the time and I asked if she could come out of the cage so I could play with her. She was so tiny with a little face and shiny brown and white fur. ou see, when I saw Lulu, I didn’t just see a cat. I saw myself. She was bullied by her peers, she felt that she didn’t fit in, she was the runt of the litter, and I could totally relate to that with what was going on in my life at the time. I wasn’t just saving a cat; I was saving myself. The one image I will never forget from that night was when we began the paperwork to adopt Lulu. My mom took care of filling it out as I stayed close to Lulu in her cage. When I looked back at her, it was HER that was on top of her brothers and sisters sitting up straight, as if she was showing pride and gloating that she got picked and they didn’t. That image just boosted me with so much confidence, and since that night of September 27th, 2004, Lulu has made my life better. She is there to lay with me when I am sick. She is there to listen when I need someone to talk to. She is there for me to kiss and hug when I need someone to love. She is a shoulder to cry on when I am sad. She is more than just a cat or a pet. She is a great friend and companion. I wish everyone could experience this love – Lulu has given so much happiness to me, and hopefully my story will inspire others to open up and not let a wonderful opportunity of making a great friend pass by. Pet adoption is a cause dear to my heart – please help out in any way you can by fostering, adopting, volunteering, or donating. Your help can save so many lives!” ~ Andy Isenhart

Please continue to keep your eyes and ears open!

Jean Harlow is still missing. We have had only one sighting and that was the day she got out. More flyers went out this week.

She is super friendly and would have went up to the first person she saw.

She has medicine she needs for her ears and allergies. If you have seen her or have any information, we will keep it confidential. We just want her back and on her meds.

Update: We did find a foster, but Pinky already found rescue! Yay! 🎉

📢Urgent! 24 year old cat needs immediate placement!!!!

We were contacted this morning by a rescuer who is trying to find rescue for multiple cats by this Sunday!

One of the cats is this 24 year old cat named Pinky. We think Pinky is spayed, but don’t know for sure. She is wobbly in her rear end so she may have some neurological issues. She has lived with other cats.

We are looking for a foster for Pinky. She needs a place to land fast. Her family is moving out of their apartment on Sunday. If placement is not found, she will be going to CACC.

If you have fostered for us before, sent us an email if you can foster.

If you are a new foster, please fill out an application at: https://www.luluslockerrescue.org/foster

Rudy was neutered today! You can tell by his expression that he is not sure what to think. 😂

Originally, we were hoping to get the neuter done when he had his dental, but the poor boy had 14 teeth removed so we had to hold off.

Only better days ahead, Rudy! 🐶

Meet Anya. 🐾

Anya is a gorgeous tabby girl around 5 years old who has completely mastered the art of winning people over. Her favorite hobby? Climbing directly into your lap and soaking up every ounce of attention she can get. It’s no surprise she has become a volunteer favorite at our cat adoption center.

Anya would thrive in a home where she can finally relax and be someone’s spoiled companion. She does well with laid back male cats, but she would also be perfectly happy as your one and only feline queen. As long as there are people nearby to love her, Anya is content.

Right now, Anya is staying at our cat adoption center, but what she really wants is a cozy couch, warm laps, and a home environment where she can truly shine.

Anya is available for adoption or foster. If you’ve been looking for a sweet, affectionate cat who just wants to love and be loved, Anya is waiting for you. ❤️

Cool Whip is the total package. Gorgeous girl? Absolutely. Biscuit-making champion? Without question. Professional people lover? That too.

This sweet girl is happiest when she’s curled up next to her humans, kneading away like she’s trying to open her own bakery. Cool Whip has never met a person she didn’t want to charm.

When it comes to feline friends, she definitely prefers the company of the boys. She knows what she likes, and honestly, we respect it.

If you are looking for a beautiful cat with a loving personality and expert-level biscuit skills, Cool Whip is ready to whip her way right into your heart.

We were back at it today.

Looking for Jean Harlow, and hanging flyers. We had one person post on the neighborhood group that he saw her walking down 83rd St towards Avalon Park on the day she went missing.

Please feel free to post our more flyers if you are in that area. We are happy to send you some. Please keep posting on social media sites. Reward money for her safe return. No questions asked. We just want her back.

It has almost been 24 hours, and not so much as a sighting of Jean Harlow who we just call “Harlow.” If you have been a part of Lulu’s Locker Rescue at any point, you know Janice. She has helped us rescue so many dogs. She fosters multiple dogs at a time, and always has a supportive word for everyone. She takes tough medical cases and never complains.

Harlow is her foster dog. Yesterday around 6pm, she let the dogs out in her fenced yard. She changed out of her work clothes and cleaned up a mess from one of the dogs. She went out with the dogs and noticed Harlow was gone. There is a small part of her gate that she covers up because a small dog could get through. The blockade was moved slightly. Enough for a 9 pound dog to get through. Harlow is a very curious girl who adores people and knows no fear. Janice immediately put the other 2 dogs inside and went looking in the alley for her. Her sister also came over and they drove around talking to neighbors and people outside. No one saw Harlow walking around.

We followed all the protocols of contacting the microchip company. She was wearing a collar and tag. Contacted vets offices-posted flyers-posted on social media-neighborhood groups-food and water in the back yard with the gate open.

I went to deliver and hang flyers today with Janice. She is devastated. I asked what I could do for her, and she said she just wants Harlow back…as do we.

We are so appreciative for all the shares and people taking initiative to post in groups. We are offering a $500 reward for Harlow’s safe return. We just want her back. She is being treated for ear infections and gets monthly injections for her allergies which are really bad. She really suffers without her medication.

Harlow was last seen in her backyard near South Dante and East 83rd in Chicago. If you are in the area, please keep your eyes open. She is very friendly so will come to you. Just call or text the number on the flyer.

Please keep sharing!
~Dawn

A big thank you to our friends at Trio Animal Foundation for getting Lance out of the shelter! They also recently sponsored a dental for Rudy from the same shelter so we were able to spring him!
